  • Patent number: 10240570
Abstract: A reciprocating piston internal combustion engine includes: a sensor system on a gas exchange valve which has a valve head situated at a first end of a valve stem; a lever element which engages at a second end of the valve stem and which is designed to actuate the gas exchange valve by displacing the valve head; a detection element which, upon actuation of the gas exchange valve, is displaced along a displacement path; and a sensor device configured to ascertain a position of the detection element. The sensor device is situated in such a way that the detection element, during a displacement along a portion of the displacement path, moves predominantly in a movement toward the sensor device or away from the same, thereby providing a measurement of valve timing of the gas exchange valve.

  • Publication number: 20150144113
Abstract: A method for operating an internal combustion engine is described, the internal combustion engine including a cylinder having an inlet valve for supplying fresh air from an intake manifold in a controlled manner, an air filling being set in a certain operating mode by predefining a closing point in time of the inlet valve in an intake stroke at a constant intake manifold pressure.

  • Publication number: 20150040865
Abstract: In a method for adapting a torque model for operating an internal combustion engine, which torque model indicates an ignition angle adjustment as a function of an air charge in a cylinder of the internal combustion engine, the torque model is adapted based on a variation of an operating variable of the internal combustion engine caused by a mode switching.

  • Publication number: 20120203411
Abstract: In a method for adapting and/or diagnosing an internal combustion engine which is situated in a hybrid vehicle and forms a drive unit with at least one secondary machine, a positive or negative drive torque is applied to the internal combustion engine by the secondary machine for setting various operating states of the internal combustion engine, and at least one operating parameter of the internal combustion engine is determined at a set operating point.

  • Patent number: 7953527
Abstract: A method for diagnosing a motor vehicle and a control device for controlling a motor vehicle, a plurality of characteristic values, which are used for controlling the motor vehicle, being adapted. The adapted characteristic values are compared in each case to a threshold value, and an error message is generated if the adapted characteristic value goes beyond the threshold value. Normalized characteristic values are formed by a normalization, and a possibly faulty component of the motor vehicle is identified by a joint observation of a plurality of normalized characteristic values.

  • Patent number: 7578288
Abstract: In a method for operating an internal combustion engine, a sensor for detecting and/or an actuator for setting a performance quantity of the internal combustion engine is/are monitored for the presence of a malfunction. Monitoring is performed at a first operating point of the internal combustion engine at a lower load and at an operating point of the internal combustion engine at a higher load. The two operating points are set alternatingly, and at least one of the two operating points is set multiple times for a single monitoring operation.

  • Patent number: 7463960
Abstract: In a method for error diagnosis of an ambient-pressure sensor and an intake-manifold pressure sensor of an internal combustion engine, a defective intake-manifold pressure sensor or a defective ambient-pressure sensor is unambiguously detected by measuring the signals of the ambient-pressure sensor and the intake-manifold pressure sensor with the internal combustion engine stopped, and comparing the ambient pressure represented by the sensor signal of the ambient-pressure sensor to the intake-manifold pressure represented by the sensor signal of the intake-manifold pressure sensor to determine a pressure difference. If the determined pressure difference is greater than a predetermined maximum value, at least one additional sensor signal is measured with the internal combustion engine running, which additional sensor signal is used for identifying the defective sensor.
