  • Publication number: 20210380371
Abstract: A steel wire rope is presented for use in elevators and lifting applications. The steel wire rope contains a core surrounded by multiple strands. The outer filaments of the core and the outer filaments of the strands are likely to contact one another during used. The outer steel filaments of the core have an average Vickers hardness that is at least 50 Vickers hardness numbers lower than that of the outer filaments of the strands. As the hardness of the outer filaments of the core is substantially lower than that of the outer filaments of the strands, those softer filaments will preferentially abrade away during use. In this way the core is sacrificed while preserving the integrity of the outer filaments of the strands. The use of this ‘sacrificial core’ results in a higher residual breaking load after use.

  • Publication number: 20140374195
Abstract: A rope (210, 310) having a three-layered structure comprising a core layer, an inner layer and an outer layer, the core layer comprising one strand (225, 315), the inner layer comprising multiple strands (220) with an amount n and the outer layer comprising multiple strands (215) with an amount m, wherein n is an uneven number, and m is a number which has no common divisor with n, each strand is formed by multiple twisted metal filaments. By this structure fretting of the strands is reduced and the life time of the rope is improved. Also, the use of the rope in lifting application and an elevator system comprising such a rope are disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20140302316
Abstract: A load bearing assembly (100) for use in elevator system wherein the load bearing assembly (100) comprises at least one steel rope (102) and a jacket (110) surrounding this at least one steel rope (102). The jacket (110) comprises at least one layer of a thermoplastic elastomer comprising polymer particles (112). The polymer particles (112) have a molecular weight higher than 0.5*106 g/mol. The jacket (110) provides a coefficient of friction allowing sufficient traction between the load bearing assembly (100) and other components of the elevator system, such as the sheaves. Also disclosed is a corresponding method of making a load bearing member.
