  • Publication number: 20060205828
Abstract: The invention provides a method for recovery of an anionic fluorinated surfactant from a basic anion exchange resin having quaternary ammonium groups, the method comprising eluting the anion exchange resin with a composition comprising an ammonium salt and a water miscible organic solvent. The method according to the invention may provide one or more of the following advantages. For example, the method can be designed to allow for recovery of substantially all of the fluorinated surfactant from a basic anion exchange resin having quaternary ammonium groups. Also, the liquid used for recovering the surfactant from the anion exchange resin is a simple liquid that can be readily and cost effectively manufactured. Further the process may be carried out in a convenient and easy manner. Furthermore, the method generally does not require large amounts of the eluting composition.

  • Publication number: 20040229965
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for separating target polymers and their additives from a material containing polymers, as a result of which the recovery both of the target polymers and of the additives is made possible. Based on the principle of a selective precipitation, the target polymer is precipitated and subsequently separated from the additives present in solution and dissolved foreign polymers. The separation of the additives from the solution is effected in a further step.

  • Patent number: 5964508
Abstract: A method of permanently mounting bristles on a handle to form a brush, and a brush having bristles which extend preselected, irregular distances from the brush handle. First ends of bristles of substantially equal length are contacted against an insert element or a receiving body having a contour corresponding with the preselected, irregular distances. The insert element is heated to soften the bristle first ends or the receiving body, and then the insert element is cooled to harden the softened one of the bristle first ends and the receiving body, fastening the bristle first ends to the insert element. The insert element is fastened in a receptacle in the brush handle. As a result, the bristles extend from the brush handle with the corresponding contour. The several steps may be performed in various sequences.

  • Patent number: 5649548
Abstract: Watertight transducer for measuring the contraction of the uterus with a transducer casing, wich has on its underside a diaphragm made from a soft material, such as e.g. elastomeric plastic. The transfer of the uterine contractions takes place from the diaphragm for a ram to a dynamometer. The interior of the transducer is vented by means of a ventilating hose, whose opening to the external air is remote from the transducer, in order to avoid measuring errors as a result of temperature fluctuations.

  • Patent number: 5615674
Abstract: A clamping contact connection is provided for contacting a fetal scalp electrode, which is fixable to the head of the fetus by means of a tubular insertion, aid with a leg plate fittable to the expectant mother. The clamping contact connection comprises a first contact element, which is at least partly wedge-shaped or tapers and has at least two outer contact faces, and a second contact element openable on its front end and which has at least two openable jaws with inner contact faces. During contacting, the jaws of the second contact element engage round at least the wedge-shaped or tapering area of the first contact element. Additional holding elements prevent the unintentional separation of the clamping contact connection. The connection permits an easy manufacture of the individual elements, good cleaning, safe and rapid connection and also separation of the contact elements, as well as adequate protection against accidental, incorrect mains connection.

  • Patent number: 5500970
Abstract: An automatic toothbrush to optimally clean at least two sides of a tooth or a row of teeth comprising a cleaning head with a substantially U-shaped support to which are mounted clusters of bristles. The clusters of bristles are mounted on self-positioning pivoting levers of the U-shaped support in order to clean even little accessible tooth locations. Using at least one mechanical and/or electromagnetic drive means, control is made possible of a phase-shifted, impulsive motion of the support relative to the automatic toothbrush and of the pivoting levers with the cleaning bristles relative to the support to implement a cleaning or wiping action by the clusters of bristles from the gum to the tooth crown while, in the opposite direction, the motion takes place with at least reduced pressure applied to the teeth.

  • Patent number: 5180564
Abstract: A process for the production of an aqueous suspension of hydroxylapatite from calcium hydroxide or calcium oxide, and phosphoric acid in which, while stirring, phosphoric acid is slowly added to an aqueous solution or suspension of the calcium compound up to a calcium/phosphorus mole ratio of 10:6, wherein the course of the reaction and the achievement of the end point of the reaction is determined by the conductivity of the solution or suspension. The process results in the production of essentially pure hydroxylapatite, which is useful as, for example, a teeth cleaning agent, a bone-replacement, or as a carrier material for pharmaceutical compositions.

  • Patent number: 4469214
Abstract: In a can changer device, empty cans are fed to a reserve position A and full cans are transported from a collection position C into a delivery position G by means of an apparatus for moving spinning cans. The can moving apparatus comprises drive means containing rails and a carriage movable thereon and having pivotably mounted arms. The arms are pivotable from a substantially vertical position, and specifically, to one side into a substantially horizontal position for entraining and moving the empty cans and, as to one arm of such arms, into the opposite substantially horizontal position for entraining and moving the full can. The carriage is movable to-and-fro by means of a toothed belt between a deflection or reversing head and a drive head, respectively between the locations or positions H and L. During operation, the can changer device itself moves the filled can from the position B towards the position C and the empty can from the position A into the position B.

  • Patent number: 4153388
Abstract: A pulse generator is used to emit a pulse train of specific frequency while two pick-ups--one adjacent a circumferential array of control lugs on the rotor and the other adjacent the blades--emit start counting and stop counting pulses. The number of pulses generated by an external pulse generator are counted during the time interval for the passage of two lugs past a pick-up and the time interval for the passage of two adjacent blades past a pick-up for each revolution of the rotor. A quotient is then obtained from the two pulse numbers for each revolution and the difference between the maximum and minimum values of the quotients obtained during continued rotation is determined. If the difference exceeds a preset critical value, an activity signal is generated, for example to set off an alarm.
