  • Patent number: 10100764
Abstract: A method and a control device for raising and/or lowering an exhaust gas temperature of a combustion engine having an exhaust gas aftertreatment device arranged in an exhaust line sets the exhaust gas temperature for the exhaust gas aftertreatment using an electric-motor mode and/or a generator mode of an electrified exhaust turbocharger.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 3, 2016
Date of Patent: October 16, 2018
Assignee: MAN Truck & Bus AG
    Inventors: Andreas Pappenheimer, Andreas Sommermann
  • Patent number: 9803527
Abstract: A method for cold start pre-warming of a pressure-charged internal combustion engine and/or of an exhaust gas aftertreatment device of a internal combustion engine, includes arranging a cold-starting aid in the intake duct for warming the charge air while the engine is stationary. The internal combustion engine has at least one working cylinder with at least one inlet valve and at least one outlet valve and further includes a device for setting a valve position. The internal combustion engine can be pressure-charged by a pressure-charging device operable by an electric motor. In the method, after detection of a cold start of the internal combustion engine: the cold-starting aid is activated while the engine is stationary; electric-motor operation of the pressure-charging device is activated; and a valve overlap between at least one inlet valve and at least one outlet valve is set.

  • Publication number: 20160153350
Abstract: An electric-motor-assisted exhaust turbocharger of a motor vehicle includes an exhaust turbocharger having a first electric machine. A low-voltage on-board electrical system with a second electric machine can be operated as a motor and as a generator and can be coupled for torque transmission to the crankshaft, and an electric energy storage device supplies the electric loads arranged in the low-voltage on-board electrical system. A control unit controls the first electric machine in a first operating mode to drive the exhaust turbocharger, and controls the first electric machine in a second operating mode to recover electric energy from the exhaust-gas energy. The control unit feeds electric energy from the low-voltage on-board electrical system to the exhaust turbocharger in the first operating mode and feeds the recovered electric energy into the low-voltage on-board electrical system in the second operating mode.

  • Patent number: 8931462
Abstract: An internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle has a multi-channel fresh gas system with a plurality of fresh gas lines leading to different cylinder groups. At least one shut-off element is connected in each of the fresh gas lines and coupled to a control and/or regulating device. A multi-channel exhaust system for the discharge of exhaust gas out of the cylinders has a plurality of exhaust lines leading away from the different cylinder groups. A multi-channel exhaust-gas recirculation system has exhaust-gas recirculation lines, for recirculating exhaust gas from the exhaust system to the fresh gas system. The method and device utilize crossed-channel exhaust-gas recirculation, in which the exhaust-gas recirculation lines branching off from the exhaust lines of a certain channel lead back in each case to fresh gas lines of a different channel.
