  • Patent number: 5421205
Abstract: The ultimate tensile strength of a test sample is tested in a high speed testing machine having a frame (2), a force measuring device (9A), and a load application mechanism (3, 4) for applying a loading stroke to the test sample after a loading piston has passed through a lead stroke to attain the required testing velocity. A force locking, frictionally effective clamping mechanism clamps the test sample for coupling to the machine frame (2) and/or to the load application mechanism (3) when the loading piston has reached the testing velocity.

  • Patent number: 5322301
Abstract: A clamping or chucking tool for clamping a test sample in a testing machine has a clamping housing for applying a wedging action to the sample with the aid of one or two clamping jaws that are activated by an operating member that is inserted into the clamping housing and axially displaceable in the clamping housing. The clamping jaws are slidingly guided in a V-groove of the operating member but are stationary in the axial direction of the clamping housing, while the operating member is movable axially relative to the clamping housing for imparting to the clamping jaws a radial movement component perpendicularly to the longitudinal axis of the test sample. Lateral guide arms engage respective guide grooves in the clamping jaws to hold the clamping jaws against axial movement while permitting the radial movement. The clamping housing and the operating member are provided with at least one lateral opening for a rapid insertion of the test sample laterally into the clamping housing.

  • Patent number: 5138887
Abstract: A clamping device for holding a sample to be tested in a testing machine is so constructed that an automatic alignment of the clamping device relative to a vertical load application axis is assured to avoid the introduction of undesirable bending moments into the test sample. Thus, tension and/or compression and/or torsion loads can be applied to the test sample without interfering bending moments. For this purpose a clamping shaft is journalled in a support member for journalling about a first axis (9) and the support member is journalled in a mounting buck for journalling about a second axis (13). The mounting buck is secured to the frame of the testing machine. The two journal axes (9, 13) extend perpendicularly to the load application axis (3) of the testing machine. Further, the two journal axes (9, 13) and the load application axis (3) have a common intersection (21).

  • Patent number: 5054324
Abstract: Test samples, especially samples made of ceramic materials, are tested under tension and/or compression loads while simultaneously avoiding the application of a bending moment to the test sample. For this purpose, each end of the test sample is held by a holding element having spherical outer surfaces received in spherical segment recesses of clamping jaws. Each test sample end is held by its holding element in a form-locking force-transmitting manner without a direct contact between the clamping jaws and the test sample. The application of bending moments to the test sample is avoided because the cooperating spherical surfaces permit an adjustment of the testing sample into a vertical position without any canting of the test sample.

  • Patent number: 4821579
Abstract: In a test sample clamping apparatus for testing machines, having a clamping head or chuck and a force sensor (2) arranged on the chuck, testing forces are measured with a force sensor and displacements or test sample deformations are measured simultaneously with a light deflection. Thus, rapid test procedures such as fast tensile rupture tests are made possible. The clamping head or chuck includes a base plate (3), one side of which receives or holds clamping elements (15) and the other side of which clamps down the force sensor (2) against a support. A mirror surface (8, 8') is arranged on the base plate (3) or on other appropriate surfaces of the clamping head so as to reflect a ligth beam (10) emitted by a light source (9) onto a position detector (11). In order to measure a deformation caused displacement of the clamping head and correspondingly of the test sample (4), an electronic evaluating circuit (12) evaluates the position dependent output signal of the detector (11).

  • Patent number: 4632170
Abstract: Metal to be cast is melted in melting chamber of casting furnace. Molten metal flows through a nozzle of the melting chamber is atomized by a stream of heated compressed air. Droplets of molten metal are carried by the air stream to a mold onto which the metal is cast to form a thin even molding. The hot air stream prevents the molten metal droplets from solidifying until they reach the mold. The amount of metal cast and the thickness of the molding may be controlled by adjusting the velocity of the air stream and the distance from the nozzle to the mold.

  • Patent number: 4608922
Abstract: A high pressure press is made without the need for a press frame by wrapping the press plates with a belt. A raising device is located between the plates and the belt, and closes the plates by transmission of force to the belt, which in turn acts upon the plates.

  • Patent number: 4266467
Abstract: The present differential pressure limiting valve is constructed with an axially movable valve body having hydrostatic bearings including bearing shafts, whereby the bearing shafts are connected to opposite sides of said valve body in axial alignment. Normally the valve body is biased against the valve seat by an adjustable closing spring acting on the bearing shaft or valve body opposite the valve seat to close the valve. In addition, the face end of the bearing shaft opposite the valve seat may be loaded by a pressure medium. The respective diameters of the bearings may differ. However, the effective cross-sections of the valve body are preferally equal on both sides of the valve seat.

  • Patent number: 4261587
Abstract: The present mechanical chucking device especially for a testing apparatus, has a friction reducing layer interposed between the clamping members and a base plate and another friction reducing layer interposed between the base plate and securing elements for the clamping members, whereby said clamping members may slide within a given range along the base plate without having to release the securing elements holding said clamping members to the base plate. The clamping members are driven by a spindle movably held in a guide block on the base plate which allows an exact concentric clamping of the sample.

  • Patent number: 4245844
Abstract: The leakage flow of a pressurized medium in gap type seals is controlled by a suction device at the sealing location of the gap seal. The suction device comprises a jet pump. The jet pump is driven by the pressurized medium in the gap seal or by an externally supplied fluid medium.

  • Patent number: 4019378
Abstract: This hydraulic chucking head, especially for testing machines wherein the test sample must be held without play in the direction of load application, includes at least two test sample holding pistons movable along a common axis toward each other and toward a central axis through the chucking head. These pistons are hollow inside and movable in respective cylinders in the housing with a certain initial play. The piston walls or jackets are elastically yielding when the pressure inside the piston is increased, whereby the test sample is held and simultaneously said play is removed since the piston walls are pressed against the respective cylinder bores. Preferably a non-metallic coating is provided between the piston walls and the cylinder bores which coating acts as a sealing and reduces friction.
