Abstract: A mobile device includes a display having a plurality of display modes including a folder view display mode wherein a plurality of folders are viewable. An input device is operable to change the display mode of the display between the folder view display mode and other display modes. A memory within the mobile device stores a folder that has been previously identified for persistent viewing. A processor controls the operation of the mobile device such that after the folder previously identified for persistent viewing is stored in memory, when the folder view display mode is entered, the folder is automatically displayed on the display.

Abstract: A handheld electronic device includes a keypad having up plurality of keys and a selection member; a display component; and a processor cooperating with the keypad and the display component to provide a display at the display component. The display includes a first representation of a plurality of the keys, and at least one of: (a) a second representation of an activated one of the input members (b) a third representation including a plurality of diacritics disposed about an activated one of the input members, and (c) a fourth representation including a plurality of diacritics disposed about an activated one of the input members, and a direction of selection between the activated one of the input members and one of the diacritics. The processor cooperates with the selection member to adjust the direction of selection, and select one of the diacritics for display by the display component.

A target system, such as a wireless handheld electronic device, includes a hardware identifier and a vendor identifier. A communications channel connects the host system and the target system. An application loader routine executes at the host system, communicates with the target system through the communications channel, requests the hardware and vendor identifiers as a received identifier from the target system over the communication channel, and employs the identifiers and the received identifier to select one of the application programs for download from the host system to the target system.

The call history includes a listing of all of the calls stored by the device that are associated with the selected call log call.

Abstract: A method and mobile device for initiating telephone calls through a wireless communication network are provided. Number strings are identified in text displayed on a visual display of the mobile device. Number strings may be hyperlinked when the strings meet predetermined criteria. The mobile device monitors for a predetermined user input and upon detecting the predetermined user input causes a list of user selectable functions to be displayed on the visual display. The list of user selectable functions includes a telephone call function for initiating a telephone call to a selected number string. A telephone call to the selected number string can be initiated through the wireless communications network when the telephone call function is selected.
