  • Patent number: 9366208
Abstract: A fuel injector body has a fuel chamber and a valve seat around a fuel outlet. A valve body is positioned at the valve seat and a valve stem extends through the fuel outlet and fuel chamber. Engagement (disengagement) of valve body and valve seat closes (opens) the injector. The fuel chamber can comprise primary and secondary chambers connected by a valve passage and a metering member that restricts fuel flow between the chambers, thereby providing a flow-dependent closing force that reduces the dependence of fuel flow through the injector on fuel inlet pressure and that makes that flow dependent on an injector actuating force. The injector body or the valve body can comprise a spray-shaping surface arranged at least partly around the valve seat, which spray-shaping surface is arranged to direct a spray of fuel flowing through the fuel outlet.

  • Publication number: 20140197245
Abstract: Method for preventing carbon build-up on fuel spray guiding surfaces proximate a nozzle of a fuel injector. Liquid fuel handling surfaces of the fuel injector can remain cool while providing very hot surfaces to burn off carbon particles before carbon deposits can build up and change the spray characteristics. In the method, a spray guiding structure guides the fuel spray after exiting from the fuel injector and a deflector member is arranged around the injector body. The spray guiding structure is thermally insulated from the fuel injector, and this thermal insulation enables the spray guiding structure to be heated to a temperature above about 900° F. to prevent build up of carbon thereon.

  • Patent number: 6984791
Abstract: An elbow terminator has a socket in which an electrical probe is disposed. The terminator is insertable onto an electrical bushing such that a tongue of the bushing is received in the socket of the terminator, and the probe of the terminator is electrically coupled to a contact sleeve disposed within the tongue. A latching mechanism produces positive latching between the tongue and socket when the tongue has been inserted to a predescribed depth within the socket. In order to enable an operator to visually observe that the tongue has been inserted to the prescribed depth, the bushing carries a color band which becomes completely disposed (invisible) in the socket when positive latching occurs. Alternatively, the bushing can be provided with gauge tabs which become aligned with a witness line formed on the terminator when positive latching occurs.

  • Patent number: 6439483
Abstract: A unique variable orifice electronically controlled common variable rail injector (VOECCRI) for use in internal combustion engines characterized in part by the provision of injection ports or orifices along a tip portion of the nozzle housing having an internal cylindrical surface, and which cooperates in sealing and sliding relation with an internal hollow fuel needle having a cylindrical outer surface. In seating, the needle seats against a frusto-conical seat carried in the closure sac at the lower tip of the assembly, whereby leakage is controlled and precise opening of the injection orifices can be effected and programmed, as desired.

  • Patent number: 4967796
Abstract: A fuel injection control valve has a housing with a high pressure fuel inlet, a fuel outlet and a spill passage. A spool is rotatably and slidably received in the housing. The spool has peripheral delivery and spill control recesses which control communication of fuel to the outlet and through the spill passage as the spool rotates. The width and depth of the recesses may be adjusted to achieve desired timing and flow rate control. The spool is threadably connected to a rotating drive shaft. The spool is movable axially to adjust the amount of fuel delivered for each spool rotation and can be rotated relative to the engine drive system to adjust injection timing.
