  • Publication number: 20070148509
Abstract: A fuel cell electric power generation system using air as both a coolant and an oxidant comprises an electric power generation subsystem, an air filter subsystem, a power and control electronics unit (PEU) subsystem comprising a DC/DC converter, and an air fan subsystem. The subsystems are arranged such that air circulation through the system is improved and the risk of moisture damage to sensitive PEU components is reduced. In one embodiment, the air filter subsystem is positioned ahead of the PEU subsystem, which is positioned ahead of the power generation subsystem, which is positioned ahead of the air fan subsystem in the direction of air flow, such that air is drawn by the air fan subsystem through the air filter subsystem, over the PEU subsystem, and through the electric power generation subsystem, providing filtered air to cool the PEU prior to entering the fuel cell stack to provide oxygen for the electrochemical reaction.

Abstract: A system and method for implementing a fuel cell shutdown process are disclosed. Briefly described, one embodiment comprises establishing an oxidant recirculation path from a portion of the cathode flow path upon initiation of the fuel cell shutdown process, wherein the oxidant is recirculated during an oxygen depletion phase to substantially deplete oxygen residing therein to form a substantially oxygen-free fluid; and establishing an anode purge path from a portion of the cathode flow path and the anode flow path by means of a diverter valve, wherein the anode purge path is established upon completion of the oxygen depletion phase, and wherein the substantially oxygen-free fluid is transferred to the anode flow path to substantially purge out the fuel therein during a hydrogen purge phase.

  • Patent number: 6702112
Abstract: A socket holding device having a body with a plurality of socket-receiving members affixed thereto. Each of the socket-receiving members has a generally tubular configuration with an open top and a closed bottom. A slot extends from the open top toward the closed bottom along each of the plurality of socket-receiving members. A magnet is positioned in the closed bottom of each of the socket-receiving members. A plurality of sockets of different sizes are respectively removably received in the plurality of socket-receiving members so as to be physically accessible from outside of the socket-receiving member through the slot. The socket is magnetically releasably retained by the magnet.
