Publication number: 20240158066Abstract: An aircraft access cover for an opening in the surface of an aircraft. The aircraft access cover includes a first panel and a second panel, the first panel and second panel configured to be attachable to each other such that the surface of the aircraft is clampable between the first panel and second panel when the first panel and the second panel are attached to each other. A device that is operable to perform a function while attached to the aircraft access cover is attachable by a connector to the first panel of the aircraft access cover, the connector allowing the device to be movable between a first orientation relative to the first panel and a second orientation relative to the first panel.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 8, 2023Publication date: May 16, 2024Inventor: Andrew McMahon

Publication number: 20230341752Abstract: Recording indicators for devices with cameras that provide protection from tampering so that the recording indicators cannot be easily disabled or masked. Recording indicators that are external to the camera lens and that emit visible light in an encrypted pattern are described. The device may process captured frames to detect the encrypted pattern; if the encrypted pattern cannot be detected, recording is disabled. In addition, modular accessories are described that the user has to attach to the device to enable recording; the presence of the modular attachment indicates to persons in the environment that they may be being recorded.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 26, 2023Publication date: October 26, 2023Applicant: Apple Inc.Inventors: Justin J. Publication number: 20230340419Abstract: Current kidney organoids model development and diseases of the nephron but not the con-tiguous epithelial network of the kidney's collecting duct (CD) system. Here, we report the generation of an expandable, 3D branching ureteric bud (UB) organoid culture model that can be derived from primary UB progenitors from mouse and human fetal kidneys, or gen-erated de novo from human pluripotent stem cells. In chemically-defined culture conditions, UB organoids generate CD organoids, with differentiated principal and intercalated cells adopting spatial assemblies reflective of adult kidney's collecting system. Aggregating 3D-cultured nephron progenitor cells with UB organoids results in a reiterative process of branching morphogenesis and nephron induction, similar to kidney development. Applying a gene editing strategy to remove RET activity, we demonstrate genetically modified UB organoids can model congenital anomalies of kidney and urinary tract (CAKUT).Type: ApplicationFiled: April 27, 2021Publication date: October 26, 2023Applicant: University of Southern CaliforniaInventors: Zhongwei Li, Biao Huang, Andrew McMahon, Zipeng Zeng

Patent number: 10089355Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for partitioning data into n partitions in a database used for information retrieval. According to certain embodiments implemented with at least one processor, a perceived load is determined for each of a plurality of substrings, each of the substrings corresponding to one or more entries in the database. The plurality of substrings are ordered from highest to lowest perceived load. Data associated with each of the first n substrings is assigned to a separate partition, wherein n is greater than one. Moreover, data associated with each of the remaining substrings is assigned to the n partitions based on a score. The score is computed by calculating, for each partition, a load variance and an entropy weight for the candidate substring. The load variance and the entropy weight are combined, and the candidate substring is assigned to the partition that has the lowest combined score.Type: GrantFiled: September 1, 2014Date of Patent: October 2, 2018Assignee: Mapquest, Inc.Inventors: Darren A. Patent number: 9811559Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for identifying points-of-interest using customized query prediction. According to certain embodiments, a partial query is received from a client via a network. The partial query may comprise a plurality of characters associated with a full query and location data associated with the client. The received partial query may be analyzed using at least one dictionary. Based on the analysis of the received partial query, at least one query may be predicted. Moreover, at least one point-of-interest may be identified based on the at least one predicted query. Further, data associated with the at least one identified point-of-interest may be transmitted over the network to the client prior to receiving the full query from the client.Type: GrantFiled: September 1, 2014Date of Patent: November 7, 2017Assignee: Mapquest, Inc.Inventors: Darren A. Patent number: 9697469Abstract: A method and system for making financial or medical decisions. The method comprises training sets of models using classification training with sets of data derived from segregated data sources. Overall weighting of each model within the sets of models are determined for each of the sub-datasets. The sets of models, the overall weighting of each model and a number of examples provided from the data for each of the datasets are transmitted to a central server over a communication network, wherein the central server is configured to determine the relative weights of each of the sets of models in the overall ensemble model based on the number of examples, combine the sets of models, receive new application data, and predict at least one of outcome variables, an uncertainty factor for the variables, and drivers of the outcome variables based on the new application data.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 2014Date of Patent: July 4, 2017Inventors: Andrew McMahon, Lawrence Wong, Matthew Burriesci, Martin Lee, Bo Han
