    Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed for illumination of a keyboard in a computing device having a display contained in a portion of the computing device which is hingeably attached to a keyboard portion, the display having a backlight. The system comprises one or more translucent elements associated with the keyboard and one or more light-conducting fibers for conducting light from the backlight of the backlit display to the one or more translucent elements associated with the keyboard. The level of illumination is varied by means of the one or more light conducting fibers transmitting light through two portions of transparent material, the two portions of transparent material have an area of contact between them which may be varied. A color adjustment mechanism is also provided.

    Abstract: Apparatus for reducing electromagnetic field radiation from an electrically conducting enclosure is disclosed. The apparatus comprises an electrically conducting element having two extremities and in which the electromagnetic field radiation induces a current, and an electrical resistance connected between the two extremities of the electrically conducting element so as to absorb the electromagnetic field radiation. In an embodiment to absorb electric field energy, the element is a substantially linear conducting element which absorbs electric field radiation and the electrical resistance has a direct electrical connection to a first extremity of the electrically conducting element. In an embodiment to absorb magnetic field energy, the element is a substantially circular conducting element which absorbs magnetic field radiation, each end of the electrical resistance having a direct connection to a respective extremity of the substantially circular conducting element.

    Abstract: A magnet for use in a magnetic matrix display has a two dimensional array of apertures between opposite poles of the magnet. The direction of the magnetic field is such that the magnet generates, in each channel, a collimating magnet field for forming electrons from a cathode into an electron beam. A `keeper`, area around the periphery of the magnet is used to improve the linearity of the field strength in the apertures from apertures at the center of the magnet to apertures at the periphery of the magnet. The `keeper`, area may have control circuits placed on the surface of that area of the magnet. The keeper area may contain apertures which are not used for collimation and into which electrons are prevented from entering by a grid electrode or by a physical blocking means.

A matching network 205 provides phase and gain correction to the signal from element 200, amplification means 210 receives the signal from network 205 and an emission means 215 radiates a cancelling electric field dependent on the modulations detected by said element 200.
