  • Publication number: 20070179729
Abstract: A method and apparatus for obtaining higher resolution spectral data on lower-resolution spectral data provided by a spectrometric transducer is described. The method includes calibrating the spectrometric transducer to produce results for a reconstruction of spectra using the results, and processing the lower-resolution spectra data using a set of numerical algorithms dedicated to an integrated micro-spectrometers associated with the spectrometric transducer and using the results of calibrating to provide the higher resolution spectra data. The apparatus utilizes the method.

  • Patent number: 7084974
Abstract: An apparatus and method for in situ spectral measurement is disclosed. The apparatus uses a low-resolution grating to disperse light and thereby image a spectrum thereof. The imaged spectrum is converted into a digital electrical signal and is processed in order to enhance the spectral information. The resulting spectral information is analogous to that captured using a higher resolution spectral imager with optical processing of the spectral data.

  • Publication number: 20050276601
Abstract: A method and apparatus for reconstructing a spectrum from data obtained from a spectrometric transducer is described. The method comprises computng a first estimate of the spectrum by applying a first deconvolution algorithm in a first domain to the spectrum data, computing a second estimate of the spectrum by applying a second deconvolution algorithm in the first domain to the first estimate, transforming the second estimate from the first domain to a second domain, and computing a third estimate of the spectrum by applying a third deconvolution algorithm in the second domain. The first algorithm uses calibration data obtained from the spectrometric transducer and a reference transducer.

  • Publication number: 20050273188
Abstract: A method for improving characteristics of acoustic and vibration transducers, including integrated microphones and integrated transducers of vibrations, is disclosed. The method consists in the use of a low-fidelity acoustic or vibration transducer for converting an acoustic signal into an analog electrical signal, an analog-to-digital converter for converting the analog electrical signal into a digital signal and a digital processor for correcting and enhancing the latter signal. The resulting digital representation of the acoustic signal is analogous to that attainable by using a high-fidelity transducer.

  • Patent number: 6826331
Abstract: A method of assembly is presented for a multi-wavelength optical monitor (MWOM) for use in fibre optic telecommunication networks. The method allows coarse optimisation to be used to align an input optical fibre and detector array relative to a wavelength division demultiplexing element. The detector array output data are transformed with a digital signal processor into relative intensities of the components of the spectrum or spectral parameters of telecommunication channels.

  • Patent number: 6510257
Abstract: A multi-wavelength polarization monitor for use in optical networks is disclosed. A received light signal is beam split into first and second signal portions using a beam splitter having known optical characteristics. Each of the first and second signal portions is then dispersed onto a detector array using a first and second dispersive element having known polarization-dependent characteristics. The signal portions are dispersed other than as channelized data within known channels. The dispersed first and second signal portions are then detected using a first and a second detector array and electrical signals in dependence thereupon are provided for A/D conversion and digital signal processing.
