  • Publication number: 20090241598
Abstract: A method of forming a decorative chain includes joining a first and second material in a layered relationship, each material having a different appearance, and forming such joined material into a thread comprising a core of a third material. In one embodiment, the thread is introduced onto a support to form a spiral, and the spiral is separated into chain elements or links that are intertwined to form jewelry chains. Thereafter a portion of the first material along the outer surface of the chain is removed to reveal or expose a portion of the sub-layer of second material along the outer surface. In one embodiment, the thread core is maintained for solid link chain. In another embodiment, the thread core is removed to form hollow link chain. In either case, the outer surface of the chain is provided with contrasting appearances from the first and second materials.

Abstract: A method of forming a decorative chain includes joining a first and second material in a layered relationship, each material having a different appearance, and forming such joined material into a spiral. A core is introduced into the spiral and then the core plus spiral are shaped into a desired configuration. Thereafter a portion of the first material along the outer surface is removed to reveal or expose a portion of the sub-layer of second material along the outer surface.

  • Patent number: 6223516
Abstract: A method of diamond cutting or faceting hollow link jewelry chain by arranging a chain on an ice lathe support, completely freezing the chain on such support and moving a blunt instrument across such chain to produce flattened links. The pressure of the blunt instrument against the frozen chain simultaneously scrapes off the ice and flattens the links, thereby avoiding the requirement that the portion of the links that are to be faceted be initially unfrozen. The blunt instrument may be a so-called “finger of steel”, which can be sharp, pointed, rounded, arcuate, smooth or the like. A variety of faceting formations can be realized depending on the movement of the blunt instrument across the outer surface of such chain.
