Patent number: 6620387Abstract: A transalkylation reactor having a plurality of catalyst beds with individual feed points for each bed for converting poly alkylated benzene, typically products from a alkylation process, to mono alkylated benzene. Only so many of the catalyst beds are used to optimize the conversion of poly substituted benzene to mono substituted benzene. As the catalyst ages more of the beds are utilized to maintain conversion.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 1998Date of Patent: September 16, 2003Assignee: Catalytic Distillation TechnologiesInventor: Angel Sy

Patent number: 5600049Abstract: In the alkylation of benzene with propylene in a distillation column reactor to produce cumene the overheads from the distillation reactor are fed to a depropanizer where the unreacted benzene is separated from C.sub.3 's. Liquid propylene feed for the distillation column reactor is vaporized by indirect heat exchange with the overheads from the depropanizer to condense the overheads, thereby reducing the pressure in the depropanizer below what would be normally achieved with conventional condensing systems.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 1995Date of Patent: February 4, 1997Assignee: Chemical Research & Licensing CompanyInventor: Angel Sy

Patent number: 5554264Abstract: To heat the circulating reboiler streams of multiple distillation columns a fired reboiler is provided for a first column requiring the most heat. A portion of the bottoms from the first column is passed through the tubes of the heater in the fired reboiler and recycled to the first column as is normal. A slip stream is taken from the recycle after heating and passed on to provide heat by indirect heat exchange to a second reboiler and if desired other reboilers or heat exchangers. The slip stream may then be recycled to the bottoms of the first column directly or to the circulating steam of the first reboiler. A portion of the recycled slip stream can be taken as feed into the second column.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 1995Date of Patent: September 10, 1996Assignee: Chemical Research & Licensing CompanyInventor: Angel Sy

Patent number: 5215725Abstract: A system for the catalytic distillation production of alkylated aromatic compounds is provided wherein the vapor pressure of the olefin may be increased while maintaining the same olefin feed rate and aromatic to olefin ratio. In one embodiment a side stream from the vapor from the second column below the catalyst and olefin feed is condensed and rerouted to the aromatic make up stream from the reflux drum. The vapor pressure of the olefin in the lower end of the first column in the catalyst bed is thus increased which increases the equilibrium concentration of the olefin in the liquid phase. In another embodiment of the invention the effective driving force for the reaction is increased by injecting the olefin at different heights within the catalyst bed. If additional olefin is injected more catalyst bed height would be required, but the additional catalyst is more that offset by the increased throughput at the same overall olefin conversion.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 1992Date of Patent: June 1, 1993Assignees: Chemical Research & Licensing Company, ABB Lummus Crest, Inc.Inventor: Angel Sy

Patent number: 4356336Abstract: In the production of a chlorinated hydrocarbon, such as chlorinated methanes, a purge stream is recovered from the chlorinated hydrocarbon effluent, which contains inerts and unreacted hydrocarbon. The unreacted methane present in the purge stream is combusted to recover the fuel values thereof; e.g., as a fuel in the waste chlorinated hydrocarbon combustion to recover chlorine values, with the inerts then being purged from the system.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 1978Date of Patent: October 26, 1982Assignee: The Lummus CompanyInventor: Angel Sy

Patent number: 4193944Abstract: A purge stream, containing inerts, some unreacted alkane and chlorinated hydrocarbon, is recovered from a chlorinated hydrocarbon production effluent and initially contacted with a first absorption oil recovered from the effluent which is at least one chlorinated hydrocarbon boiling at a temperature of at least 140.degree. F. to absorb chlorinated hydrocarbon, followed by contacting with waste chlorinated hydrocarbon byproduct to absorb any remaining chlorinated hydrocarbon and first absorption oil. The purge gas is introduced into a combustion zone for burning waste chlorinated hydrocarbon byproduct to recover the chlorine values therefrom, and thereby utilize unreacted alkane present in the purge gas as fuel. Subsequent to recovery of the chlorine values, the inerts are purged.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 1978Date of Patent: March 18, 1980Assignee: The Lummus CompanyInventors: Utah Tsao, Angel Sy
