  • Publication number: 20110253145
Abstract: An endotracheal tube monitoring and control system for the safe and effective use of that endotracheal or trachea (ETT or TT) cuff within the larynx of a human patient comprising: a control unit for the monitoring and control of the ETT or TT tube cuff in communication therewith; a pressure sensor in communication with the control unit and with an empowered air pump and associated a dump valve; and a patient position sensor to indicate patient inclination, wherein the pressure in the cuff is pre-set and maintained at a selected value by a system operator, and wherein the system provides feedback of pressure within the cuff and acts to supplement or dump pressure from that cuff, as necessary, including a mouth care alert, head of bed angle alarms, safety override of microprocessor control should cuff pressure reach dangerous levels, and self-test protocols to ensure proper operation of pneumatic control components.

  • Publication number: 20110253137
Abstract: A system for the control of a ventilator or an anesthesia delivery machine for an intubated patient, wherein the intubated patient has an endotracheal tube inserted into the airway passage, the endotracheal tube having a controllably inflatable annular cuff thereon, wherein the cuff is monitored and controlled by a pressure control unit, the system including: a patient-disturbed signal arrangement for providing a feedback to the ventilator or anesthesia delivery machine through the pressure control unit to delay pressure changes directed to the cuff by the ancillary devices.

  • Publication number: 20050006594
Abstract: System for determining the Fluorescent Radiation from a sample which has been irradiated with other fluorescent radiation comprising a fluorescent radiation source with its radiation collimated downward into a plastic test tube containing the sample at the bottom which tube is contained in a temperature control block. Once the sample emits its own fluorescent radiation which escapes from the tube through an aperture at the side and then is reflected by a mirror situated at an angle which redirects the fluorescent radiation downward again at a point not in the same plane as the radiation from the initial source. The fluorescent radiation then passes through focusing lenses and a filter which removes all radiation other than that fluorescent radiation emitted by the sample. The sample's radiation then contacts a photosensing device which measures the sample's fluorescent radiation which measurement is processed by an electronic processor which displays the result for the user of the system.
