Patent number: 11299232Abstract: This invention relates to vehicle suspension systems and devices, and particularly to vehicle suspension systems and devices having an air spring with adjustable and/or tunable characteristics. The vehicle suspension may generally include features for modifying the spring rate of an air spring, such as, for example, to increase initial suppleness and to decrease spiking during later portions of travel. In an exemplary aspect, the fork may include features for decreasing the initial volume of the air chamber of the positive air spring during the initial part of travel and may further include features for expanding the air chamber of positive air spring during a later part of travel.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 2014Date of Patent: April 12, 2022Inventor: Anthony Diaz

Patent number: 10988143Abstract: According to one embodiment, a method, computer system, and computer program product for cloud integration for autonomous vehicles is provided. An embodiment may include receiving a location for the autonomous vehicle from a global positioning system, may also include determining a rule area in which the autonomous vehicle is located based on the received location, may include identifying a traffic rule set associated with the determined rule area, may also include, in response to determining that the identified traffic rule set is not available for the determined rule area, transmitting a manual mode alert to a user, and may include enabling a manual mode in the autonomous vehicle.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 2017Date of Patent: April 27, 2021Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Nixon Cheaz, Anthony Diaz, Richard Gebhardt, Ashrith Shetty, Rohit Shetty

Patent number: 10899344Abstract: A method and system enabling a process for preventing a vehicular accident is provided. The method includes continuously monitoring vehicular impact conditions associated with a vehicle in motion. In response, an imminent impact event associated with the vehicle in motion and an external object is detected and a surface of a roadway below the vehicle in motion is scanned by sensors of the vehicle. Results of the scanning indicate that the roadway surface is safe for deployment of a destructive friction based braking mechanism of the vehicle. The destructive friction based braking mechanism is deployed with respect to a first braking force threshold and it is determined if rate of speed decrease exceeds a specified speed decrease threshold.Type: GrantFiled: January 9, 2018Date of Patent: January 26, 2021Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Nixon Cheaz, Anthony Diaz, Michael E. Head, Jordana H. Kerr, Rohit Shetty

Patent number: 10625733Abstract: A method for the delayed parking optimization of an autonomous vehicle includes activating a delayed parking optimization mode in a vehicle and, during the delayed parking optimization mode, detecting a presence of one or more passengers in the vehicle. On condition that no further passengers are detected in the vehicle, a delay period is initiated subsequent to which the vehicle engages the transmission of the vehicle from park to reverse, applies power to cause the vehicle to back out of the parking spot onto the roadway, engages the transmission into drive, applies power and manages steering and braking of the vehicle in order to navigate the vehicle forward on the roadway beyond the parking spot, engages the transmission into reverse, applies power and manages steering of the vehicle to cause the vehicle to back into the parking spot and engages the transmission of the vehicle into park.Type: GrantFiled: April 18, 2017Date of Patent: April 21, 2020Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Nixon Cheaz, Anthony Diaz, Michael E. Head, Jordana H. Kerr

Patent number: 10547801Abstract: Detection of an image obstruction is facilitated by, in part, obtaining multiple frames of an image being captured via an imaging device, and confirming movement of the imaging device between the multiple frames. The movement causes perspective shifting of the image between frames and the perspective shifting results in one or more objects of the image shifting between frames. The detection process determines whether an edge object within the multiple frames does not shift in a manner corresponding to the one or more objects between the multiple frames, and based, at least in part, on determining that the edge object does not shift in the corresponding manner to the one or more objects, identifying the edge object as an image obstruction. Presence of the identified image obstruction is signaled to facilitate corrective action being taken.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 2017Date of Patent: January 28, 2020Assignee: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATIONInventors: Nixon Cheaz, Anthony Diaz, Rohit Shetty, Richard A. Gebhardt

Patent number: 10365796Abstract: Methods and systems for managing a graphical user interface involve, for example, one or more processors displaying on a display screen a visualization of a hub element defined in part by an arc-shaped boundary portion and defining a badge element within the visualization of the hub element. Thereafter, a radial menu element may be animated by the one or more processors for rotation to a position adjacent and extending radially from the arc-shaped boundary portion of the hub element and defined in part by an arc-shaped boundary portion of the radial menu element spaced apart from the arc-shaped boundary portion of the hub element.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2017Date of Patent: July 30, 2019Assignee: CITIBANK, N.A.Inventors: Andrew Robert Blackman, Alaa Abdulkhaleq Saeed, David Niall O'Byrne, Javier Anthony Diaz
