Inventors: Pathamadai V. Sankar, Leonard Anthony Ferrari
  • Publication number: 20110176743
Abstract: Data compression methods include an adaptive context sensitive compression (ACSC) method for data compression, a generalized discrete wavelength transform (GDWT) method for data compression, and a data compression method combining both the ACSC method and the GDWT method. The ACSC method improves upon the conventional CSC method with the development of a more informed adaptive estimate of the relative bandwidth, and hence the corresponding sampling rate, for each row of an image, rather than a global decimation rate for all the rows of the image. The GDWT method may be successful with N is an arbitrary number and may result in reduced computational complexity and reduced storage requirements, as compared to conventional DWT, when N is not a power of two.

  • Patent number: 7775231
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and devices for retrofitting fire hydrants with additional structure for reducing the potential that those with ill intent can foul municipal water supplies by introducing toxins or other materials into fire hydrants. Various embodiments include a replacement hydrant body having an enlarged diameter portion that can be installed to replace an existing hydrant body. The replacement hydrant body can include a secondary valve comprising a seat, biasing structure, and a restriction member to close off portions of the hydrant otherwise available for receipt of toxic or other materials when the fire hydrant nozzle cap is unscrewed and open.

  • Patent number: 7575017
Abstract: Wet barrel fire hydrants which feature additional structure for reducing the potential that those with ill intent can foul municipal water supplies by introducing toxins or other materials into fire hydrants. Various embodiments include valves which close off portions of the hydrant or water conduit otherwise available for receipt of toxic or other materials when the fire hydrant nozzle cap is unscrewed and open and/or a pump is connected to the nozzle. Such valves preferably open automatically when water is flowing from the water supply through the nozzle, but close off portions of the barrel when the nozzle is open and water is not flowing through the nozzle.

  • Patent number: 7428910
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and devices for providing a fire hydrant actuator rod with additional structure for allowing air to reach the area of a fire hydrant below a secondary valve. Various embodiments include an actuator rod with openings and hollow portions and configured to provide air from the area of a hydrant above the secondary valve to the area of a hydrant below a secondary valve. In some embodiments of the present invention, a check valve is provided with the actuator rod that is adapted to prevent the flow of fluid in at least one direction.

  • Patent number: 5709521
Abstract: The bicycle carrier apparatus of the invention has a commercially obtainable pneumatic or similar power lift device positioned longitudinally in and along an elongate bicycle lifting and supporting columnar standard whose lower end is pivotally mounted on a preferably rotatable turntable as part of a mounting base that is adapted for attachment, usually through longitudinal bars inserted in such base, to conventional transverse bars of the usual rooftop luggage rack of an automotive vehicle. The columnar standard includes a bicycle-securing lift bar having a height adjustable lift arm carrying a device that is attachable to the frame of a bicycle to be carried in upstanding position on the rooftop of the vehicle and that accommodates the pivotal swinging movement of such lift bar and of the columnar standard to which it is attached.
