  • Patent number: 6813573
Abstract: An apparatus and method for calibrating a peripheral device having a scanner and document feeder is provided. A target page is printed having a target at a known location on the page. The target page is then fed into the document feeder for scanning by the scanner. A calibration value is determined by determining the lateral position of the scanned target within the scanner. The calibration value is then used to adjust the lateral position of a scan line window width of the scanner to scan substantially only the entire width of a document page to be scanned.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 3, 2001
Date of Patent: November 2, 2004
    Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.
Inventors: Eric L. Andersen, Mark M. Josephsen, Anthony G Laidlaw

  • Patent number: 6075925
Abstract: In an image forming device, a control panel having an intuitive hierarchical layout including: three rocker type switches corresponding to a menu selector, an item selector and a value selector; a select push-button; a job cancel push-button; and a go button. Menu selector, item selector, value selector and select button are arranged in an intuitive hierarchical fashion with the selectors corresponding to higher level features and menus are placed higher in the control panel layout hierarchy than lower level selectors. The rocker type switches allow a user to proceed through menus and items within the menus in both forward and backward directions. The separate go button as well as the separate job cancel button are provided to allow independent selection of those features.

  • Patent number: 5931456
Abstract: The invention includes an adjustable media tray for an image forming device such as a printer, copier or facsimile machine. The media tray incorporates a media guide which is slidably mounted on the tray. The media tray and associated guide incorporate a releasable locking mechanism which, when engaged, permits the guide to be slidably moved in one direction, but prevents the guide from being slidably moved in the opposite direction. The locking mechanism incorporates a plurality of pawls and at least one ratchet rack with equally-spaced, ramp-shaped teeth. Each of the teeth has a vertical edge. Each of the pawls has associated therewith a plurality of teeth of a single rack, and each of the pawls is adapted to sequentially engage a vertical edge of each of its associated plurality of teeth. Engagement of each pawl with the vertical edge of each of its associated plurality of teeth is out of phase with engagement of each other pawl with the vertical edge of each of its associated plurality of teeth.
