  • Patent number: 5382083
Abstract: The present assembly provides a seat assembly for motor vehicle having a light weight frame made of magnesium for easy removal and reinstallation of the seat assembly in the motor vehicle. The rear cross member of the seat cushion frame is an elongated body having a pair of cavities for high strength while at the same time providing means for attaching structural components to the seat cushion frame. The seat cushion frame components are formed with interiorly extending flanges for mounting the seat trim thereto. The mounting flanges include a notched portion forming a ledge against which a tail portion of a J-clip is seated to facilitate installation of the trim on the seat assembly.

  • Patent number: 5056867
Abstract: An adjustment mechanism for a head restraint assembly in which the head restraint is supported on one or more posts having a plurality of V-shaped detent notches for engagement by a spring clip to hold the head restraint in place. The spring clip includes a V-shaped contacting portion having two legs which concurrently contact the surfaces of the detent notches to hold the head restraint in place. The lowest notch is a locking notch having an upper inclined surface and a lower radial surface while the lower surface of the spring clip contacting portion includes a cutout the upper edge of which contacts the radial surface of the locking notch to prevent removal of the head restraint post. The outer edge of the V-shaped contacting portion of the spring clip is rounded to reduce abrasion of the post surface coating.

  • Patent number: 4988134
Abstract: An inertia sensitive latch mechanism for preventing a motor vehicle seat back from folding from a normal upright position to a folded forward position when the seat is exposed to deceleration loads above a predetermined level including a pendulum pivotally mounted to the movable seat back having a notch and tooth for engaging a striker bar. The center of gravity of the pendulum is located such that when the seat back is urged from the upright position to the folded position when the vehicle is exposed to a predetermined deceleration load, the pendulum engages the striker bar to prevent movement of the seat back. The striker bar is movably mounted to the seat support and the latch mechanism includes a guide member adjacent the pendulum for moving the striker bar to a predetermined location relative to the pivot point of the pendulum as the seat back is moved into its normal upright position.
