  • Patent number: 11957331
Abstract: Suturing apparatuses can be configured to suture biological tissue, such as an anatomical valve. The suturing apparatuses can include a suturing device having an elongate shaft having a proximal end and a distal end, one or more tissue grasping arms, and a handle with actuators. The suturing device can further include at least two needles. One of the tissue grasping arms can have at least two suture mounts each loaded with a suture portion. The suture portions on the suture mounts can form a single suture strand. Methods for suturing bodily tissue may be performed with the suturing apparatuses. The tissue grasping arms can grasp tissue therebetween and at least two needles can be deployed toward the suture mounts, engage the suture portions, and be retracted through the tissue. A knot can be tied on the ends of the suture strand retrieved by the needles.

  • Publication number: 20240108327
Abstract: Suturing apparatuses configured to suture biological tissue, such as an anatomical valve, are disclosed. The suturing apparatuses can include an elongate member having a proximal end, a distal end, one or more arms, and one or more needles. A protective member may be used to inhibit contact between a distal end of a needle and surrounding tissue. Methods for suturing bodily tissue such as an anatomical valve may be performed with the suturing apparatuses. The suturing apparatuses may be used to suture adjacent valve leaflets or the base of a valve in order to treat or repair the valve.

  • Patent number: 11744576
Abstract: A knot placement device allows a physician to apply a knot for securing two or more suture ends extending from an incision in a vessel or organ of a patient relative to each other in order to seal an opening in the vessel or organ. The knot placement device has a handle and an elongate shaft and a push rod slidably inserted in said shaft. A knot is disposed in the distal end of the shaft. An actuator on the handle may be depressed to distally advance said push rod relative to said shaft and thereby distally advance said knot. The knot may include a knot body having an inner cavity and a plug sized to fit securely within the inner cavity. In use, the plug may be inserted into the inner cavity of the knot body to fixedly hold two or more suture ends between the knot body and the plug.

  • Publication number: 20220313229
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are disclosed for closing a patent foramen ovale. Some of the disclosed apparatuses include an elongate body having a proximal end and a distal end, with first and second suture clasp arms adapted to hold end portions of a suture when in an extended position. A first suture catch mechanism is slidably housed in the elongate body and moves in a proximal-to-distal direction to engage the suture end held by the first suture clasp arm, and a second suture catch mechanism is slidably housed in the elongate body and moves in a distal-to-proximal direction to suture end held by the second suture clasp arm. The first suture clasp arm can be positioned around the septum primum to deliver a suture thereto, and the second suture clasp arm can be positioned around the septum secundum to deliver a suture thereto.

  • Publication number: 20220280149
Abstract: A device for suturing an anatomic valve can comprise an elongate body, a suture catch mechanism and a suture clasp arm. The suture catch mechanism can be operatively coupled to the elongate body for movement between a retracted position and an advanced position. The suture clasp arm can be attached to the elongate body for movement between a retracted position and an extended position. The suture clasp arm can comprise a suture clasp configured to releasably retain a suture portion. In some embodiments, the suture clasp is positioned on the suture clasp arm such that the suture catch mechanism retrieves the suture portion from the suture clasp arm while the arm is at least partially retracted. In some embodiments, the suture clasp arm can be closed about a tissue portion without damaging the tissue portion.

  • Patent number: 11400273
Abstract: Constriction valves for catheters and method of using constriction valves are presented. The catheter valve has a conduit comprising mesh defining a lumen. The catheter also has a biasing member that is configured to bias the lumen from an open position to a closed position by altering an effective length of the conduit or altering the circumference of the conduit. The biasing member is further configured to change its configuration by changes of intraluminal pressure of the valve. A user can insert a tool into a catheter having a valve by manipulating the valve to expand a substantially closed lumen by compressing the biasing member, twisting the biasing member, or pulling on a cord coupled with the valve.

  • Patent number: 10849615
Abstract: A suturing device uses an inflatable balloon coupled to multiple arms and needles to place sutures at appropriate positions. In preferred embodiments the suturing device includes an elongated body having a working end, a controlling end, and a lumen. The elongated body is coupled to an arm having a distal end with a needle target, which is used to place a suture in an appropriate position relative to the aperture. An inflatable balloon is positioned in an area enclosed by the arm, such that inflating the balloon physically moves a needle towards the needle target.
