A virtual model of the size option of the luggage item selected by the customer is displayed for inspection by the customer. A plurality of different color options for a plurality of functional components to be included on the luggage item are displayed for viewing and selection by the customer. The functional components in the color option selected by the customer are displayed on the virtual model. A plurality of different color and pattern options for a front panel, a back panel, and a pair of opposing side panels a displayed for viewing and selection by the customer. The front panel, the back panel, and the pair of opposing side panels in the color and pattern option selected by the customer are displayed on the virtual model.
