  • Patent number: 11959798
Abstract: A method and a system for noise discrimination, the method comprising measuring noise levels of a noise source, measuring noise levels at a target location positioned at a distance from the noise source, measuring wind speed and direction in an area comprising the noise source and the target location, filtering transient short-duration events from the noise levels measured at the noise source, yielding filtered noise levels of the noise source, filtering transient short-duration events from the noise levels measured at the target location, yielding filtered noise levels of the target location, measuring a sound transfer function between the noise source and the target location using the filtered noise levels, comparing the measured sound transfer function with a reference transfer function; and when the difference between the measured transfer function and the reference transfer function is above a predetermined threshold, determining a probability that noise at the location originates from the noise source.

  • Patent number: 8439106
Abstract: A technique facilitates the logging of hot, subterranean environments with a variety of logging tools. Logging tools with temperature limit ratings may be employed in environments that would otherwise be detrimental to operation of the logging tool due to the heat. The logging tool may be protected through placement of the tool at a desired location within a non-metallic flask. The logging tool also is surrounded with an insulating material and/or a material with a high heat of fusion disposed within the non-metallic flask to increase the time span for operating the logging tool in the hot, subterranean environment.

  • Patent number: 8260594
Abstract: The invention concerns a method and a system for predicting the apparent flow conductivity of a heterogeneous medium. According to the invention, the following steps are implemented:—choosing a flow conductivity element type with a given set of characteristic parameters;—determining equations for said flow in said element type;—determining a network statistics for said given set of characteristic parameters; and—performing a stochastic homogenisation of said equations, for said network statistics. The invention applies more particularly to the predicting of the apparent viscosity of non-Newtonian fluids in a heterogeneous porous medium.

  • Patent number: 8123888
Abstract: A technique facilitates construction of high temperature fiber reinforced polymer oilfield tubulars. The technique comprises a method of combining a fiber material and a high temperature thermoset resin to create a high performance composite material. The composite material is formed into an oilfield tubular that can be used in a variety of downhole applications. The method of combining the high performance materials with low modulus, high temperature coating materials during the manufacturing process produces composite tubular products that can survive prolonged exposure to deleterious well fluids in high temperature and high pressure downhole environments.

  • Patent number: 7757775
Abstract: A technique distributes localized stress acting on a tubular. The tubular is formed with an inner layer and an outer layer that is compliant relative to the inner layer. A force distribution material is disposed between the inner layer and the outer layer to spread any concentrated loads acting against the tubular. The compliant nature of the outer layer causes it to distort against the force distribution material when acted on by a concentrated external load. The outer compliant layer and the force distribution material cooperate to isolate and protect the inner layer from displacements of the surrounding subterranean material.

  • Patent number: 6941372
Abstract: An apparatus, system and method for enabling individuals to communicate with each other to discuss predetermined topics of interest (e.g., health and fitness, weather, politics, science, etc.). In one embodiment, a mobile communicator enables a user to communicate with other participants on various predefined topics within a predetermined range of the device (e.g., five to ten miles). The mobile communicator includes a full-duplex transceiver which is able to send and receive signals on one or more channels, each channel corresponding to a predefined generic topic of interest. The mobile communicator further includes a channel selector operatively coupled to the transceiver for selecting a particular one of the transceiver channels and a corresponding discussion topic. In an illustrative application, the user selects a channel and may then participate in a discussion whose topic or subject matter corresponds to the selected channel.

  • Publication number: 20050193038
Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for managing multiple copy versions of a source volume. In one embodiment, the apparatus includes a replication record management module, a pre-pairing record management module, and a copy record module. The replication record management module is configured to maintain a current replication record that is descriptive of a current copy version of the source volume. The pre-pairing record management module is configured to maintain a future pre-pairing record that is descriptive of a future copy version of the source volume. The copy record module is configured to create a copy record from a pre-copy record. The pre-copy record may be either the current replication record or the future pre-pairing record. The apparatus, system, and method beneficially maintain multiple records to describe different states for a particular copy version and dynamically handle changes to a source pool, a target pool, or both in a data copy environment.

  • Patent number: 5620524
Abstract: Described herein is an apparatus and method for delivering fluid components for semiconductor processes such as chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and chemical etch processes. Any prescribed mixture of separate fluid reagents can be delivered with extreme accuracy and precision using the apparatus we describe here. The unique embodiment of a precision fluid pumping system utilizing internal pressure and temperature transducers, capacity volume and restrictive elements that comprise a continuous pulse-free system for use in CVD applications. This system has superior performance characteristics in the areas of: accuracy, precision, repeatability of the fluid mixture delivery and continuous repeatable delivery without intermittent pulsation. We describe a novel fluid pump whose design is integrated using a closed loop feedback system composed of temperature and pressure sensors. This allows the entire system to perform to in either an isobaric-isothermal mode or an isocratic-isothermal mode.
