  • Patent number: 4901566
Abstract: This invention describes an angle of attack sensor for aeronautical use fitted with an electromagnetic device to damp the movement of the rotable part of the sensor and, when required, to position the moving part for test purposes. The damper comprises:a rotor, attached to the moving part and carrying permanent magnets;a stator, attached to the fixed part of the sensor and containing conductors, wrapped into notches, and a ferromagnetic casing placed in front of the notches. The rotor movement is damped by eddy currents generated in the casing when the rotor turns. The rotor is positioned, for test purposes, by the field generated by the stator windings when power is fed to them.
