  • Patent number: 11230516
Abstract: The presently disclosed subject matter relates to methods and systems for purifying 1,3-butadiene from a C4 hydrocarbon stream. An example method includes introducing a C4 hydrocarbon stream including 1,3-butadiene and acetylenes to an organic azide in the presence of a catalyst to generate a first stream including triazole, separating triazole from the first stream to produce a second stream including 1,3-butadiene, and distilling 1,3-butadiene from the second stream to produce a purified 1,3-butadiene product stream.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 4, 2019
Date of Patent: January 25, 2022
    Assignee: SABIC GLOBAL TECHNOLOGIES B.V.
Inventors: Kuldeep Wadhwa, Antonio Matarredona, Radu Ignat, Sekhar Mamilla, Christoph Roosen, Alex Londono
  • Patent number: 10384991
Abstract: The presently disclosed subject matter relates to methods and systems for purifying 1,3-butadiene from a C4 hydrocarbon stream. An example method includes introducing a C4 hydrocarbon stream including 1,3-butadiene and acetlyenes to an organic azide in the presence of a catalyst to generate a first stream including triazole, separating triazole from the first stream to produce a second stream including 1,3-butadiene, and distilling 1,3-butadiene from the second stream to produce a purified 1,3-butadiene product stream.

  • Patent number: 9957211
Abstract: The present invention provides, among other things, new processes for separating and purifying C4 fractions from a crude C4 stream. Compared to prior methods, the processes of the present invention simplify the C4 separation processes, afford more possible configurations for separation and purification, and are more cost effective. The processes and systems provided herein can be used as part of a cost-effective and efficient method for synthesizing methyl tertiary-butyl ether.

  • Publication number: 20170088496
Abstract: A process of generating a glycerol ether is provided. The process includes reacting isobutylene with an alcohol to obtain a tertiary alkyl ether through an etherification reaction and generating a glycerol ether from the tertiary alkyl ether and glycerol through a transetherification reaction, A system for generating a glycerol ether is also provided.

  • Publication number: 20160326079
Abstract: Described herein are methods and systems for producing methyl t-butyl ether (MTBE) by reacting an isobutene-containing stream with methanol in an MTBE production unit. In accordance with the method described herein, at least a portion of the isobutene-containing stream is obtained from a mixed C4 stream from a steam cracking unit and is not produced by passing the dehydrogenation of isobutane. Furthermore, an alkane-containing stream from the MTBE production unit is used as a feed stream for the steam cracking unit.
