  • Publication number: 20020067320
Abstract: A flat-panel display apparatus having plasma discharge cells forming pixels arranged in a matrix of M row and N columns, wherein N is larger than M. The flat display panel has sustain electrodes and scan electrodes arranged in one direction and data electrodes in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction. A data driver circuit is coupled to the data electrodes for supplying data signals to the discharge cells in response to video information, wherein the data electrodes are arranged to constitute the M rows, the sustain and scan electrodes are arranged to constitute the N columns and the data driver circuit is adapted to supply data signals to a column of selected pixels.

  • Publication number: 20020051056
Abstract: Apparatus for identifying the four coordinates of a window on a visual display monitor, the apparatus comprising means for obtaining digital data corresponding to pixels of an image to be displayed on the monitor, a memory arranged to receive the digital data, a comparator arranged to compare the values of data for horizontally and vertically adjacent pixels, means for generating a gradient value indicative of the difference in luminance of adjacent pixels in the horizontal and in the vertical directions, a memory for storing the gradient values, means for detecting a unique configuration in the gradient values to identify the three coordinates of one edge of the window, and means for checking in the direction perpendicular to the identified edge for a corresponding unique configuration, to determine the fourth coordinate of the window.

  • Publication number: 20020047592
Abstract: The invention relates to an AC plasma display panel (12) of the surface discharge type, and more specifically to the structure of the address electrodes (5) of said panel, and to a method of driving said panel. According to the invention, only one address electrode (5) is used for one out of every two columns. Scan (8) and common (7) electrodes may comprise transparent parts (11). These parts (11) may extend over one out every two cells, in a checkerboard fashion. In a preferred embodiment as shown in FIG. 7, the columns may have alternating wide (15) and narrow (16) cells (2). In the driving method according to the invention, all rows are addressed during an addressing phase, and subsequently all rows are simultaneously sustained during a sustain phase.

  • Publication number: 20020030772
Abstract: Display device based on the scanning window principle in which uniform light segments (30) are obtained via light sources, or backlights, (12, 40) which introduce light into a side (10) of a waveguide (15). Segments are defined via liquid crystal switches, or shutters, (21) or parts of a row of LEDs (40).
