  • Patent number: 11970726
Abstract: The invention relates to the field of microbiology and detecting micro-organism. Provided is a method for the quantitative analysis of microbial cells in a liquid sample, comprising the steps of (i) contacting the sample with a nucleic acid binding fluorescent dye to stain for nucleic acids in said microbial cells; (ii) subjecting the labelled cells to a fluorescence microscopy imaging method and determining, based on the nucleic acid staining, for a plurality of single cells at least a first parameter reflecting the nucleic acid content of said cell and a second parameter reflecting the extent of stretching of said cell; (iii) classifying based on said at least first and second parameter said cell into one of the following categories: (A) Viable cultivable cells with a nucleic acid content value between >=0.1 and <1.0 and extent of stretching of the cell value between >=1.0 and 10 ???m2, (B) Viable non-cultivable cells with a nucleic acid content value of >?0.

  • Patent number: 9452943
Abstract: The invention relates to an anaerobic water purification system, conversion kit and method for treating a liquid. The anaerobic water purification system according to the invention comprises: —a container for the liquid for treatment provided during use with a sludge bed; —a supply conduit operatively connected to the container for supplying the liquid for treatment; —a distribution system connected to the supply conduit for distributing the liquid over the sludge bed from above; —carrier material which is arranged during use in the container and to which anaerobic sludge material can attach; and—a gas roof arranged at or on the container and provided with a volume which can be adapted during use to the biogas production. The carrier material is preferably free-floating material. The discharge conduit for discharge of treated liquid is preferably connected to a riser pipe.

  • Patent number: 6063273
Abstract: For the biological purification of waste water, use is made of a column containing a UASB reactor (1) at the bottom and an aerobic reactor (2) at the top. The two reactors (1; 2) are separated from one another by a partition (12) in which openings are provided to allow the anaerobic effluent through into the aerobic reactor. The partition (12) is situated at some distance above the gas collection means (8) in order to form a buffer zone (13) for anaerobic sludge which has flowed through. Preferably, a floatation apparatus (3) is mounted on the aerobic reactor in order to separate biomass from the purified water.
