  • Publication number: 20070258377
Abstract: Techniques and systems are provided for a wireless communication module to identify whether a host is present and may configure the module in response. Different modes of operation in a wireless communication module enable a full host mode, a simplified host mode, or a host-less mode of operation of a communication module, such as a low end extension of Bluetooth communication module. Other techniques and systems control a communication module remotely. A wireless connection may be used to write to and read from registers and a memory space associated with the remote wireless communication module.

  • Patent number: 7263077
Abstract: According to the proposed method, the frequency of power control commands transmitted on a power control channel is changed according to the traffic. When the traffic becomes slower in at least one direction due to a DTX state, a slower transfer rate, asymmetric data transfer or for any other reason, the frequency of power control commands is lowered. Both the base station and the personal station may lower the frequency of the commands which they send. An alternative to changing the frequency of power control commands is to change the energy of power control bits. The duration of power control bits must hereby be extended, if a standard bit error ratio is desired. If the system is frequency-divided and/or time-divided and uses frequency control command of several bits, the length of the command word may be shortened in addition to or as an alternative to the change in frequency. The power control algorithm may be changed several times during a traffic connection.

  • Publication number: 20070147332
Abstract: A plurality of polling response transmission times are allocated for a corresponding plurality of remote devices. The remote devices operate according to a first wireless transmission mode, such as Bluetooth LEE. These allocated polling response transmission times are outside of a time interval designated for communications according to a second wireless transmission mode, such as Bluetooth. Each of the polling response transmission times may be offset from a polling packet transmission time by a corresponding delay interval. In addition, a polling packet to the plurality of remote devices is transmitted, and one or more responses to the polling packet are received. Each of these responses is sent by one of the remote devices during its corresponding polling response transmission time. In addition, communications according to the second wireless transmission mode may be conducted during the designated time interval.

  • Publication number: 20070116033
Abstract: Systems and methods for a communication system implementing a short range communication link between devices advertising available information and services, and user devices which may initiate a request for further information or services. The communication system provides a low power solution utilizing an optimized combination of a carrier sensing and frequency division multiple access to avoid collisions. The optimization involves the use of a random mean zero value offset appended to the advertising devices' transmission frames. The offset increases the likelihood that a first advertising device will recognize the transmissions of another advertiser's transmissions (i.e., determining that a channel is busy) and avoid unnecessary transmissions that will result in collisions. Upon recognition, the first advertiser may shift its transmission frame accordingly, thereby avoiding transmission collisions between advertisers.

  • Publication number: 20060227741
Abstract: A method and system for establishing a non-frequency-hopping connection link between a slave device with another slave device in a communications network having a plurality of frequency channels within a radio frequency band known as the unlicensed ISM band, wherein the connection links between slave devices are capable of being carried out in a frequency-hopping fashion. • Patent number: 7085532
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for accelerating a set-up procedure for wireless connections between at least two devices. The set-up procedure requires a first device to receive an inquiry message initiating said procedure from a second device twice with a back-off time in between before responding to the second device. In order to enable such an acceleration, it is proposed that the first device scans for inquiry messages and measures a value of a parameter associated to a detected inquiry message indicative of the received power level of the inquiry message. Then, the first device determines at least a maximum number as a function of the measured value, or of a pathloss determined based on this measured value. It moreover generates a random number within a number space limited by the maximum number. Finally, the first device scans again for the inquiry message after a back-off time. The length of the back-off time is related to said generated random number.

  • Publication number: 20050020322
Abstract: The present invention relates to systems and methods for a implementing an optimized power conservation communication protocol, wherein the communication link is flexible and the power consumption characteristics are optimized. One facet of the system's flexibility relates to the system's ability to negotiate device control roles associated with a polling communication link. Also, once the device control roles are in place and the communication link is established, the system selectively implements a number of polling protocols for a multitude of applications that need a low power consumption. In some embodiments the system maintains a communication link with a reduced frequency polling protocol. This type of communication link maintains efficient power consumption characteristics, as well as, connection times that are faster than establishing a communication link between disconnected devices.
