  • Patent number: 9689707
Abstract: A system, method, and indicator for distributing, generating, and presenting relative locations of points of interest to a viewer are disclosed. A distribution system may include a discovery datagram generator and a flight navigation datagram generator for broadcasting a discovery datagram and flight navigation datagram, respectively, to a portable electronic device (PED), where the flight navigation datagram may be comprised of navigation data representative of flight navigation information. A generating method may be performed by the PED configured to listen for and receive the discovery datagram; listen for and receive the navigation datagram continuously; and generate a display data set representative of the indicator continuously, where the indicator includes a directional pointer, a first rounded indicator, a second rounded indicator, and one or more location indicators, where each location indicator indicates a relative bearing to a point of interest measured with reference to the directional pointer.

  • Patent number: 9118973
Abstract: A novel and non-trivial aircraft digital media entertainment system, device, and method employed therein are disclosed. A content controller is configured to receive first data initiated through a media player application installed in a first portable device configured with a mobile operating system; retrieve and stream second data responsive to the first data to the first portable device; receive third data initiated through a remote control application installed in a second portable device configured with the mobile operating system; retrieve and stream fourth data responsive to the third data to a channel processor for subsequent distribution to one or more displays; receive fifth data initiated through a cabin channel control application installed in a cabin channel controller configured with an aircraft system operating system; and retrieve and stream sixth data responsive to the fifth data to a channel processor for subsequent distribution to one or more displays.

  • Patent number: 8995440
Abstract: Present novel and non-trivial system, device, and method for the distribution of in-flight information to a portable electronic device (“PED”) are disclosed. The system could be comprised of a cabin entertainment unit and one or more PEDs, where the cabin entertainment unit could be a device comprised of a discovery datagram generator, a flight navigation datagram generator, a file transfer protocol/hypertext transfer protocol (“FTP/HTTP”) server storing a custom map configuration file, and/or a trackline data generator. A discovery datagram could provide a plurality of network addresses from which the PED may listen for and receive flight navigation datagrams repeatedly, request and receive the custom map configuration file, and request and receive trackline data representative of the ground track already flown by the aircraft.

  • Patent number: 8880243
Abstract: A present novel and non-trivial system, device, and method for presenting flight information of a plurality of aircraft on a display unit. An image generator (“IG”) is programmed to receive a first request for flight information for one of a plurality of aircraft; receive first flight information of a viewer aircraft when included in the request; send a second request for second flight information of a target aircraft for each target aircraft included in the request; receive the second flight information; retrieve terrain data corresponding the flight information of a focal aircraft; generate an image data set representative of a three-dimensional scene of a selectable view comprised of the sky, the spherical surface of the Earth, a first aircraft symbol corresponding to the received flight information, and a first curved flight path; and provide the image data set to a display unit.

  • Patent number: 5798818
Abstract: A theater sound processing system that provides preset configurations including parameters that can be modified by a user. Other setup parameters are modifiable by the manufacturer or a third party such as a sound technician who provides such parameters at installation time. The parameters allow control of equalization settings, gain, noise reduction processing, surround sound processing, and other audio characteristics. The designation of user modifiable parameters and non-user modifiable parameters insures that the user is given safe control over necessary parts of the system. User-modifiable parameters are changed via a user interface. Other parameters can be transferred to the sound processing system via a portable computer or by communications link. In a digital sound processing embodiment of the invention the entire sound processing ability of the system can be updated by downloading new signal processing software.
