  • Patent number: 9490935
Abstract: A method for blindly determining positioning reference signals in a wireless communication network determines a positioning reference signal (PRS) network configuration by estimating a PRS energy from predetermined locations of each subframe of an incoming signal. Such a method may also include blindly detecting PRS parameters based on the estimated PRS energy. The PRS energy may be peak energy responses for deep searches or verifications. The PRS energy may be a signal to signal plus noise ratio for shallow searches.

  • Publication number: 20160065342
Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to randomization of positioning reference signal (PRS) frequency offsets and muting patterns in long term evolution (LTE) for enhanced observed time difference of arrival (eOTDOA). According to certain aspects, a method is provided for wireless communications which may be performed, for example, by a base station (BS). The method generally includes randomly selecting at least one parameter used to determine a set of time-frequency resources for transmitting positioning reference signals (PRS) and transmitting PRS on the determined set of time-frequency resources. The user equipment (UE) may randomly select the at least one parameter used to determine the set of time-frequency resources to measure for the PRS from the BS and measure PRS on the determined set of time-frequency resources.

  • Publication number: 20150241547
Abstract: Described are an apparatus and a method for increasing an uncertainty associated with an estimated position of the apparatus. Signals transmitted from a plurality of stationary transmitters may be acquired, and a difference in received carrier frequency of the acquired signals may be measured. The lower bound of a speed of a mobile device may be determined based at least in part on the measured difference in received carrier frequency. • Publication number: 20150237565
Abstract: Determining the early arrival path (EAP) based on a channel energy response (CER) can involve the use one or more masks to identify one or more peaks in the CER. Masks can be applied to the CER in an iterative process that can help identify the earliest peak corresponding to the EAP. Alias cancelation may also be implemented.

  • Patent number: 8824967
Abstract: A method for interference reduction is described. The method is implemented in a wireless device. It is determined that a page is going to be received via a secondary receiver. It is also determined that a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) image from a transmitter will cause interference with the secondary receiver when the page is received. A sampling frequency of the DAC for the transmitter is changed so that there are not any DAC images from the transmitter that will cause interference with the secondary receiver.

  • Patent number: 8700055
Abstract: When a user equipment engaged in mobile communications transfers from a network with one radio access technology (RAT) to another network with a different radio access technology, maintaining continuity of location based services can improve system performance. A user equipment may perform a series of checks when undergoing inter-RAT transfer to determine if a location based services protocol used with the source network is operable on the target network. The UE also determines if location based services sessions are at a point where they can be continued following inter-RAT transfer. Where possible, protocols and sessions are maintained to preserve location based services continuity.

  • Patent number: 8411771
Abstract: A method and apparatus for selectively clipping waveforms prior to transmission in a multi-carrier wireless communication system is provided. The design includes estimating peak values of the composite multi-carrier signal, determining a local threshold set including one local threshold for each carrier based on a configurable total threshold representing a maximum aggregate signal level for a sum of all signals to be transmitted over the multiple carriers, and clipping one signal to be transmitted over one carrier when the signal exceeds a corresponding local threshold and a sum of all signals to be transmitted over multiple carriers exceed the total threshold. Alternately, the design may include estimating peak signal values for signals to be transmitted in the multi-carrier system, and selectively clipping any signal wherein at least one peak signal value exceeds a local threshold and peak signal values for a sum of all signals to be transmitted exceed a global threshold.

  • Patent number: 8098767
Abstract: A receiver may train its equalizer using consecutive pilot bursts, divide the traffic between the consecutive pilot bursts into multiple sub-segments, and interpolate the trained equalizer coefficients to obtain the coefficients for equalizing one or more of the sub-segments. The receiver may also determine signal to interference and noise ratio (SINR) values based on each of the consecutive pilot bursts, and interpolate the SINR for decoding one or more of the sub-segments. The receiver may be an access terminal receiver operating in a code division multiple access (CDMA) cellular system.
