  • Patent number: 9839768
Abstract: An introducer catheter for obtaining access to a blood vessel includes a hollow needle with a beveled tip extending from a needle hub as well as a flexible sheath slidingly positioned over the needle. The needle hub includes an actuator configured to rotate the needle tip by about ½ of a turn upon reaching the target vessel. Rotation of the needle tip allows a more confident motion of advancing the sheath further into the vessel to secure the sheath therein. The introducer catheter of the invention is designed to increase success rate of vessel access using minimal number of needle punctures and to decrease the rate of vascular complications, especially in vulnerable patients such as children.

  • Patent number: 8366649
Abstract: A disposable single-needle extracorporeal blood treatment circuit for such treatments of blood hemofiltration, plasma filtration, detoxification and alike includes a manually operated syringe attached to a proximal bifurcation and a patient's access port attached to a distal bifurcation. Both bifurcations are connected with each other by a withdrawal line and in parallel by a treatment loop including a blood treatment unit and an air removal element. In the first embodiment, one or two three-way valves (such as stop-cocks) are positioned at these bifurcations to allow directing the flow of blood from the patient to the syringe through the withdrawal line and redirecting the flow through the treatment loop when blood is being returned to the patient from the syringe. In a second embodiment, two check valves are positioned along said withdrawal line and said treatment loop to automatically direct the blood floe in the same manner.

  • Patent number: 8317499
Abstract: The peristaltic pump of the invention incorporates at least one pumping roller and one occluding roller. The occluding roller is located diametrically across the pumping roller and is designed to provide occlusion only and not progressive squeezing of the pump tubing while rotating in the same direction as the pumping roller. Such occlusion prevents back-flow through the tubing. More than two rollers spaced evenly along the periphery of the rotor allow for various useful combinations of pumping and occluding rollers. Two occluding and one pumping roller combination creates a pulsatile flow close to that of a human heart—with systole being about twice shorter than diastole.

  • Patent number: 7972291
Abstract: A peristaltic roller pump includes a rotor carrying a pumping roller on one end and an occluding roller on the other end. Occluding roller has a number of protrusions designed to occlude the tubing section that is located under that roller as it moves over it in order to prevent any back flow through that section of the tube. Occluding roller is designed to not cause any pumping of fluid through the section of the tubing under that roller. Such design is useful in a single-needle dialysis system in which during a first phase of pumping blood is moved in one direction from the patient towards the dialysis unit and during the second phase of operation blood is returned to the patient in the opposite direction.

  • Patent number: 7578662
Abstract: A peristaltic roller pump includes a rotor carrying a pumping roller on one end and an occluding roller on the other end. Occluding roller has a number of protrusions designed to only occlude the tubing section that is located under that roller as it moves over it in order to prevent any back flow through that section of the tube. Occluding roller is designed to not cause any pumping of fluid through the section of the tubing under that roller. Such design is useful in a single-needle dialysis system and in other alternating pumping systems in which during a first phase of the pumping the fluid is moved in one direction and during the second phase of operation the fluid is moved in the opposite direction.
