  • Patent number: 5788888
Abstract: Described is a process for preparing a three-dimensional article of a lyotropic polymer comprising the steps of (a) forming a shaped article of a liquid crystalline solution of a lyotropic polymer; (b) washing the shaped article with a washing fluid under conditions sufficient to reduce the solvent content of the article to less than about 2,000 parts per million, wherein the dimensions of the washed article are no less than 0.05 inches by 0.05 inches by 0.05 inches. Such articles are useful for many applications, particularly those requiring fire- and/or heat-resistance.

  • Patent number: 5106050
Abstract: A system for mounting various pieces of equipment at selected locations along the length of a support member. A clamping unit, releasably mounted on the support member for adjustable positioning of the clamping unit, is fixed in place by the action of locking means which draw a protrusion on a clamping piece into intimate contact with opposed contact surfaces in a groove running along the length of the support member. The opposed contact surfaces of the groove form an acute angle transverse to the length of the support member. With the support member formed as an open channel, cables from the equipment being mounted can be positioned within the channel and clips snap-fitted into the opening in the channel close off the opening in the channel at selected locations and form smaller openings through which the cables pass.

  • Patent number: 4713202
Abstract: A process for preparing a multilayer structure. The structure is produced at an elevated temperature. The structure is characterized in that it distorts upon changes in temperature; includes at least two layers of different materials, at least one of which creeps significantly at the elevated temperature at which the structure is prepared and; contains no layers which creep significantly at ambient temperature. The process includes cooling said structure such that at least one of the layer(s) which creeps at said elevated temperature is cooled at a rate which is least 50% less than the material cooling rate thereof.

  • Patent number: 4623502
Abstract: In an extrusion process a feed conduit for the die is positioned axially in the extruder barrel to provide minimal surface roughness on the extrudate. Increased extrusion rates of quality product are obtained.

  • Patent number: 4527557
Abstract: A volume ventilator is disclosed which has a balloon valve type exhalation valve for permitting release of gases to the ambient environment during the exhalation period of artificial ventilation or spontaneous breathing, or when there is excess proximal pressure in the ventilator system. A pressure transducer continuously senses the proximal pressure in the ventilator system and sends to a microcomputer controller and associated circuitry of the ventilator system a signal indicative of the instantaneous proximal pressure. The pressure in the balloon, which is the pilot pressure of the exhalation valve, is regulated through a jet venturi type pressure controller which is connected to a source of pressurized gas. The gas flows through the jet venturi, wherein its flow rate is regulated by a ball valve moving against a suitable valve seat. The ball valve is controlled by a stepper motor through a cam follower.
