Patent number: 9089783Abstract: Techniques are disclosed that enable a toy device to interact with a computing device through wireless transmissions. The toy device is configured to communicate with the computing device by transmitting an audio signal at a nearly-inaudible frequency. The toy device may encode commands in the audio signal that cause the computing device to generate visual or auditory outputs. The toy device is also configured to receive and process interactions from human users and/or computing devices. The interactions may be in the form of speech or physical manipulations of the toy device. The toy device may respond to the interactions by generating visual or auditory outputs. The toy device may also process the interaction, and, in response, transmit an audio signal to the computing device.Type: GrantFiled: August 18, 2011Date of Patent: July 28, 2015Assignee: DISNEY ENTERPRISES, INC.Inventor: Armen Mkrtchyan

Patent number: 8957587Abstract: In some embodiments, a signal of light may be emitted from an illumination source of a first transceiver. A second transceiver may detect a signal of light from the first transceiver that exceeds a threshold luminosity; and activate, in response to the detecting of the signal of light that exceeds the threshold luminosity, an illumination source of the second transceiver to illuminate. An intensity of the illumination source of the first transceiver may then be reduced in response to the activating of the illumination source of the second transceiver to illuminate.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 2013Date of Patent: February 17, 2015Assignee: Disney Enterprises, Inc.Inventors: Kenlip Ong, Armen Mkrtchyan, Courtney Watkinson

Publication number: 20140312165Abstract: A hand-launched unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to determine various characteristics of ground surfaces. The UAV includes a lightweight and robust body/wing assembly, and is equipped with multiple consumer-grade digital cameras that are synchronized to acquire high-resolution images in different spectra. In one example, one camera acquires a visible spectrum image of the ground over which the UAV is flown, and another camera is modified to include one or more filters to acquire a similar near-infrared image. A camera mount/holder system facilitates acquisition of high-quality images without impacting the UAV's flight characteristics, as well as easy coupling and decoupling of the cameras to the UAV and safeguarding of the cameras upon landing. An intuitive user interface allows modestly trained individuals to operate the UAV and understand and use collected data, and image processing algorithms derive useful information regarding crop health and/or soil characteristics from the acquired images.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 17, 2014Publication date: October 23, 2014Inventor: Armen Mkrtchyan

Publication number: 20140179443Abstract: Exemplary implementations may facilitate modifications to characters and/or virtual items within a virtual space, or to the virtual space itself, made responsive to detection of a token. In some implementations, a physical accessory may depict a character in the virtual space. By way of non-limiting example, the physical accessory may include a toy figurine resembling the character. A detectable token (i.e., a physical object) may be removably attached to the physical accessory. According to some implementations, responsive to the physical accessory being detected along with the removably attached token, a modification within the virtual space may be made to the character and/or a virtual item associated with the character. In some implementations, detection of the token alone may effectuate such a modification.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 26, 2012Publication date: June 26, 2014Applicant: DISNEY ENTERPRISES, INC.Inventors: John G.
