  • Patent number: 4532715
Abstract: The inspection or measuring machine is suitable for measuring the circular pitch spacing of teeth on gears of large diameter since the measurement results are not negatively influenced by the finite resolution of the graduations of the angular displacement sensing means. The signal pulses .phi..sub.i delivered by the angular displacement sensing means are input into a control processor together with a value r.sub.i of the current measuring radius delivered by a linear displacement measuring system. The control processor computes a corresponding arc-length b therefrom. The path distance T.sub.s (X) corresponding to the deflection of the measurement sensing feeler is measured from the beginning of a linear region of response of the measurement sensing means as recognized by a range comparator. A logic gate initiates the computation of the true arc-length B on the measurement-circle from the calculated arc-length b and the measured path length T.sub.

  • Patent number: 4356556
Abstract: A method of determining the boundaries of a measuring path of a tooth flank-testing apparatus, wherein a measuring feeler is arranged upon a cross-slide arrangement composed of an X-slide or carriage movable in the direction of the tooth width of a test piece and a Y-slide or carriage movable in the direction of the tooth height. Each carriage has associated therewith a X-drive and Y-drive containing X-servomotor and Y-servomotor, respectively, X- and Y-position transmitter and X- and Y-position regulator. Both drives can be selectively manually controlled or by a program-controlled computer, which processes apart from signals of the position transmitter also signals delivered by the measuring feeler itself in accordance with the deflection of its measuring head and interrupts the course of the program when the deflection exceeds a predetermined value.

  • Patent number: 4297788
Abstract: A gear testing machine tests toothing characteristics such as tooth profile, tooth pitch or tooth helix angle and records deviations between desired and actual values on a test piece (10) which may be a gear, a worm etc. A radial carriage (16) is mounted on radial guideways (14) and is displaceable by means of a radial drive comprising a servomotor (16a), a tachogenerator (16b) and a position transducer (16d). In addition, a tangential carriage (26) and an axial carriage (30) are controllably displaceable by respective drives analogous to the radial carriage drive. The various drives are further connected to position regulators. The desired/actual deviations can be determined from a signal of a sensor (34) and correction values of the corresponding position regulators.

  • Patent number: 4285133
Abstract: A gear tooth flank testing apparatus and method wherein there is provided a housing erectable upon a bed or the like of a gear cutting machine. A measuring feeler is moveably arranged at the housing by means of two cross-wire arranged carriages having associated drive and displacement path measuring devices. The measuring feeler is moveable along two coordinated axes intersecting the axis of the workpiece to be tested. A control and evaluation circuit moves the measuring feeler along a tooth flank of the workpiece and compares the actual settings of the measuring feeler with predetermined reference settings. In particular, at the housing there is arranged a feeler bolt which can be pressed in spaced relationship from the measuring feeler against two neighboring tooth flanks of the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4276699
Abstract: A method and test apparatus for testing the tooth flank profiles of large diameter gears, contemplates the provision of two contact elements and a measuring feeler, which is movable along a X-axis parallel to the connection line of both contact elements and a Y-axis extending transversely thereto. The contact elements are inserted into a respective tooth gap or space of a gear which is to be measured and the test apparatus is brought into a position where both of the axes are located in a plane normal to the gear axis. Then, there is determined the origin of a X-Y-coordinate system formed by both axis, the measuring feeler thereafter is moved along at least one tooth flank and the thus measured coordinates are compared with reference values. Importantly, the invention contemplates measuring the spacing between both of the contact elements and determining therefrom the spacing of the coordinate origin from the gear axis.

  • Patent number: 4228591
Abstract: A measurement sensing device has a probe element that is displaced by an object to be measured and is acted on by an electric motor when in its displaced position to control the pressure with which it bears on the object. A control circuit for varying the standstill torque of the motor comprises means for compensating for variations in any biasing force applied to the probe element by its mounting, means for compensating for weight effects acting in the direction of measurement, and means for adjusting the predetermined value of the bearing pressure.
