  • Patent number: 8798113
Abstract: A support arm for a water-cooled, current-conducting electrode includes wall elements, wherein each wall element is a flat conductive metal with a hollowed out recess on its outer surface extending over its length. The support arm further includes a cover extending over each recess to define a closed cooling channel within each wall element when the cover is welded to the wall element. The cover includes with an inlet port and an outlet port for cooling water.

  • Publication number: 20100193213
Abstract: Assembly of the conduit of a water-cooled, high current cable including the compact cable head is disclosed. To achieve a longer service life for the assembly of the conduit (31) of a water-cooled, high current cable including the compact cable head (11), there is provided the combination of a knurled region (113) on the circumferential face of the cable head with a region (114) with saw tooth ribbing, thereby reducing adverse effects in routine operation that can be traced back to both axial stresses and torsional stresses that affect the assembly of the conduit (31) with the cable head (11), thereby improving the service life.

  • Patent number: 7682156
Abstract: The aim of the invention is the reduction of the impairment in current transfer from the contact plate (112), forming part of the electrode support arm (11), to the contact block (12), interacting with the electrode, caused by deposits between the contact plate (112) and the contact block (12) due to erosion during the fusion operation. Said aim is achieved, whereby the contact block (12) which may be brought into planar contact against a partial region of the electrode (21), is provided with a medial passage (124), running to the support arm (11), for removal of at least the large part of the erosion, said passage having a continuation (111) in the support arm (11).

  • Publication number: 20090207877
Abstract: The particular aim of the invention is cost-effective production of the wall elements for water-cooled, current-conducting electrode bearing arms, wherein wall elements have been developed which comprise a flat profile, which consists of an electrically conductive metal and into which at least one recess is incorporated on the side forming the outside of the electrode bearing arm, which recess extends over the length of the profile and is provided on the outside and the end side with a cover, which is combined with the flat profile by means of welding and provides a closed cooling channel, with in each case at least one inlet and at least one outlet for the cooling water flowing through the channel.

  • Patent number: 7194917
Abstract: The aim of the invention is to prevent a detrimental effect on the operation of electric smelting furnaces. To achieve this, a pressure cell (41), which continuously measures the clamping force, is allocated to the actuating cylinder (21) that is responsible for fixing the interchangeable electrode (31) into the electrode support arm (11), said pressure cell continuously transmitting the measured values to a measured value display that is located at a distance from the furnace. This obviates the need for the previous conventional method of checking the current clamping pressure by placing a clamping pressure gauge in the electrode holder, e.g. when the electrode is replaced, without running the risk of a breakdown caused by the detachment of the electrode, triggered by an uncontrolled drop in the clamping pressure.
