Publication number: 20090184645Abstract: The present invention provides a method and circuit for accurately controlling heating of an electrode of a discharge lamp. According to the present invention a feedback voltage is generated. The feedback voltage is representative of an electrode voltage, in particular an electrode voltage when the discharge lamp is in a non-burning state, the electrode voltage then representing a heating voltage. The feedback voltage is compared to a predetermined reference voltage, which represents a desired heating voltage. The comparator generates and outputs an error signal representing a difference between the actual feedback voltage and the reference voltage. The error signal is supplied to a power supply circuit. The power supply circuit generates the alternating supply current corresponding to the error signal such that the electrode voltage is adjusted towards the desired heating voltage.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 12, 2007Publication date: July 23, 2009Applicant: KONINKLIJKE PHILIPS ELECTRONICS N.V.Inventors: Arnold Willem Buij, Johan Anton Hendrikx

Publication number: 20080258646Abstract: The present invention deals with a lighting control system suitable for small system configurations such as in offices and conference rooms. One or more luminaires are communicatively connected in an addressable digital bus system as well as to a unit including a processing means. In connection with installation of the device, the processing means is programmed to automatically assign a digital address to each luminaire and further to automatically identify a spatial position of each luminaire by use of light measuring cells. A relationship between the digital address and the spatial position of each luminaire is thereby provided. Furthermore, the device supports the functionality of installing pre-programmed lighting scenes suitable for the determined configuration of the luminaires as well as other factors such as the position of a window.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 29, 2005Publication date: October 23, 2008Applicant: KONINKLIJKE PHILIPS ELECTRONICS, N.V.Inventors: Marcel Beij, Arnold Willem Buij

Patent number: 7429830Abstract: A fluorescent lamp (2), in particular a backlight lamp of a display device, is supplied with an alternating voltage, a frequency and an amplitude of which being greater during ignition than during normal operation of the lamp. The voltage (V) across the lamp and the current (I) through the lamp are measured to provide a measured voltage value and a measured real lamp current value. From the alternating voltage there is derived a voltage (V2). The measured voltage value is multiplied by the sum of the measured real lamp current value and the derived voltage. The multiplication result (P=V*(I+V2)) is compared with a reference value (Ref), which results in a difference or error value. The error value is used to control the frequency and the amplitude of the alternating voltage (V), such that the error value is minimized.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 2005Date of Patent: September 30, 2008Assignee: Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V.Inventors: Johannes Hendrik Wessels, Arnold Willem Buji, Geert Willem Van Der Veen
