  • Publication number: 20040197504
Abstract: A plastic-paper-plastic laminate sheeting whose plies have different properties that depend on package requirements, with the outer and inner plies in the laminate being oriented, synthetic plastic films of high tensile strength. The plies are adhesively interlaminated to an inner ply of paper at ambient temperature with a water-based adhesive whereby the orientation of the film is unaffected by the laminating process, in the course of which no environmentally objectionable fumes are discharged into the atmosphere. The laminate may also be made into a water-resistant envelope or package for mailing various materials.

  • Patent number: 6797395
Abstract: A paper-plastic laminate sheeting capable of being converted by conventional equipment into envelopes, grocery bags and other dilatable container products that initially are in a flat state and are normally made of paper. The sheeting is composed of a paper facing sheet cold-laminated by means of a water-based adhesive to a reinforcing film of synthetic plastic material, such as polypropylene. The film is oriented to impart exceptional tear and burst strength characteristics to the resultant waterproof product. The product, whose exterior surface is formed by the paper facing sheet, is readily printable. For some applications, a second paper facing sheet is cold-laminated to the other side of the film to produce a three-ply laminate sheeting whose exposed surfaces are readily printable and can accept conventional adhesives.

  • Publication number: 20040166344
Abstract: A self-closing package formed from a unitary two-ply or three-ply laminate sheeting having an inner surface which is entirely coated with cohesive material, which has the property of sticking only to itself, and having a first portion and second portion. An article may be placed on the first portion of the laminate sheeting before folding and forming he laminate sheeting into a self-closing package. To form the package, the second portion of the laminate sheeting is pulled upward around the article and folded over both the article and the first portion of the laminate sheeting so that the inner surface of both the first portion and second portion are opposed to each other. The package is closed and sealed by the cohesive coated inner surfaces of the first and second portions coming into contact with each other and thereby sticking to each other.

  • Publication number: 20020110684
Abstract: A self-closing resealable packaging material formed from at least one sheet of a package forming material, which encloses and seals and article therein. A cohesive material is applied to surface portions of the packaging material so that when wrapped around an article cohesive portions stick together and seal the package. To make the package resealable a liner is placed upon at least a part of the cohesive material containing surface so that a non-adhering margin is formed and the unused cohesive can be utilized reseal the package after its initial opening.

  • Publication number: 20010014392
Abstract: A pressure-sensitive laminate for adhering to various items. The laminate includes a paper layer; a water-impermeable plastic film layer having a first corona-discharge treated surface which is adhesively laminated to the paper layer to form a paper-plastic film laminate having first and second opposed outer surfaces; and an exposed layer of a pressure-sensitive adhesive coating on one of the first or second outer surfaces. The plastic film portion of the laminate has a strength sufficient to allow the film to be stripped in one piece from an item to which the laminate is adhered. The laminate may, if desired, additionally have a layer of a release agent upon an uncoated one of the first and second opposed outer surfaces of the laminate. A preferred use for the laminate is as a pressure-sensitive tape product.

  • Patent number: 6124032
Abstract: A heat-activated sealing tape for manufacturing or sealing a carton or other article. The tape is composed of a paper layer, a layer formed of oriented plastic film which is adhesively laminated to the paper layer, and a heat-activatable adhesive exposed for use in adhering the paper-plastic film laminate to an object. The heat activatable adhesive is inactive at ambient temperatures. When exposed to low temperature heat sealing conditions, the adhesive is activated and enables the tape to be adhered to the article to be sealed. The sealing tape is designed for ease of handling and reduction in waste, and is adaptable for use in existing automatic and semi-automatic equipment for manufacturing or sealing cartons.

  • Patent number: 6083580
Abstract: A container having walls made of a paper/plastic laminate having a cardboard core sandwiched between inner and outer face liners, wherein at least one of the face liners is comprised of a face liner laminate. The face liner laminate is composed of an exterior ply of oriented synthetic plastic film whose opposing surfaces are rendered wettable by corona-discharge treatment, and a base paper ply is cold-laminated to the film ply and adhered to the core of the board. The cardboard core may be a fluted medium of corrugated paper board, or it may be a planar stiff paper core. The invention is also directed to a structural member for use in making inexpensive furniture comprising a supporting member and a cardboard core laminated to a face liner laminate. The film ply of the laminate enhances the strength of the container or structural member and imparts water resistance thereto. Because the exposed surface of the film ply is printable, it may have decorative graphics or other printed matter applied thereto.

  • Patent number: 5962099
Abstract: A pressure-sensitive tape for sealing cartons and for other applications requiring a flexible tape of exceptional strength and of sufficient body so that the tape in roll form may be dispensed from a conventional pull-and-tear tape dispenser. The tape is composed of a paper-plastic film laminate having a first ply of biaxially-oriented, synthetic-plastic film, cold-laminated by a water-based adhesive to a second ply formed of paper. The inner surface of the film ply is corona-discharge treated to render it wettable and receptive to the adhesive, thereby producing a strong adhesive bond to the paper ply that is resistant to delamination of the tape. One side of the laminate which may be either the paper or the film side, is coated with a pressure-sensitive adhesive, whereas the other side is coated with a silicone release agent to prevent blocking, whereby the tape may be wound into a roll for loading a tape dispenser.

  • Patent number: 5804024
Abstract: A paper-film laminate sealing tape for sealing a corrugated board carton or other article fabricated of recyclable material. The tape is composed of a base ply formed of oriented synthetic plastic film whose opposing surfaces are corona-discharge treated to render them wettable and receptive to adhesives, and a paper face ply cold laminated to the base ply by a water-based adhesive. The exposed surface of the film base ply is coated with a water-remoistenable adhesive, such as a starch, so that when this adhesive is moistened in a tape dispenser, the sealing tape can then be adhered to the carton. Since the re-moistenable adhesive is coated on the film ply which is water-impermeable, when this adhesive is moistened with water it remains in a moistened state in a condition to be applied to the carton for a controlled "open-time" period.

  • Patent number: 5786064
Abstract: Apparatus for producing a breathable high strength, paper-plastic film laminate fabric sheeting, capable of being cut and sewn to form medical gowns and other garments. In this apparatus, a web of metallized paper and a web of oriented synthetic plastic film whose inner surface is corona-discharge treated before being coated with a water-based adhesive are concurrently fed in superposed relation into combining rolls to effect cold lamination of the webs to yield a laminate sheeting in which the orientation of the film web is unimpaired. The laminate sheeting emerging from the combining rolls is then foraminated to render the sheeting permeable only to moisture vapor whereby the foraminated sheeting has fabric properties and can be tailored to form garments. To enhance these fabric properties, the foraminated sheeting is embossed to impart greater bulk thereto.

  • Patent number: 5780150
Abstract: A paper-film laminate sealing tape for sealing a corrugated board carton or other article fabricated of recyclable material. The tape is composed of a base ply formed of high-strength, oriented synthetic plastic film whose opposing surfaces are corona-discharge treated to render them wettable and receptive to adhesives, and a paper face ply adhesively laminated to the base ply.
