  • Patent number: 11384708
Abstract: Operating an engine includes injecting a liquid alcohol fuel such as methanol into a stream of compressed intake air at an upstream injection location, and injecting the liquid fuel at a plurality of downstream injection locations into a plurality of streams of the compressed intake air from an intake manifold to combustion cylinders in the engine. A fueling control unit apportions a total injected quantity of the liquid fuel between the upstream injection location and the plurality of downstream injection locations based on a temperature parameter of the compressed intake air. The compressed intake air is combusted with the liquid fuel and a compression ignition pilot fuel in the plurality of combustion cylinders.

  • Patent number: 11255283
Abstract: A gaseous fuel engine system includes an exhaust controller coupled with a temperature sensor and a NOx sensor, and structured to actuate open an electrically actuated bypass valve to bypass an oxidation catalyst with exhaust, based on an exhaust temperature and an exhaust NOx amount to mitigate production of yellow smoke. Yellow smoke mitigation logic may run during startup and when the gaseous fuel engine is in a lower part of an engine load range. The yellow smoke mitigation logic can be selectively triggered in response to transient engine load increases when the gaseous fuel engine is operating in an upper part of an engine load range.

  • Patent number: 9771919
Abstract: An ignition system for use with an engine is disclosed. The ignition system may have a pre-combustion chamber in fluid communication with a combustion chamber associated with the engine, and a fuel injection device configured to inject a fuel mixture directly into the pre-combustion chamber. The ignition system may also have a spark plug configured to ignite the fuel mixture within the pre-combustion chamber, and a controller in communication with a primary energy supply and an enhanced energy supply. The controller may be configured to direct a first current from the enhanced energy supply to the spark plug after the fuel mixture is injected into the pre-combustion chamber. The controller may also be configured to direct a second current from the primary energy supply to the spark plug just after the first current is being directed to the spark plug. The second current may have a frequency that is lower than the first current.
