  • Patent number: 10221633
Abstract: A shear coupler provides a breakable connection between adjacent members of a pump rod string. The coupler features an elongated shear stud, a hollow member in which the shear stud is axially received, a first set of rotational locking features externally defined on the shear member for engagement with a first set of matable rotational locking features internally defined on the hollow member; and a second set of rotational locking features externally defined on the shear member for engagement thereof with a second set of matable rotational locking features internally defined on the hollow member. The first and second sets of rotational locking features of the shear member are disposed on opposite sides of a weakened area thereof, and tensile and torsional loads on the coupler are substantially isolated from one another. Methods and equipment for applying torsional and tensile pre-loads to the coupler are also provided.

  • Patent number: 9243460
Abstract: Clamping devices for hanging or pulling wellbore rod strings each feature housing with an axial bore in which a number of clamping pieces are placed to wedge in place between the housing and rod string to perform a self-tightening action against the rod string under the weight thereof due to cooperation of beveled surfaces at the bore wall and exterior of the clamping pieces. Threaded fasteners fed through the housing wall aid in placement of the slips against the rod string. For use in pulling operations, the housing is sized for receipt in the latching mechanism of a tubing elevator for support by the same, whereby the tubing elevator can be used to pull out a stuck rod string. Some embodiments feature a circumferential gap in the housing to enable the housing to be slipped laterally onto the rod string.

  • Publication number: 20140116725
Abstract: For use in assembling a tubing string for a production well, a rigid pre-formed liner is configured for simple drop-in place installation at each tubing joint during assembly of the tubing string in to protect the inside of the tubing string from wear caused by operation of a sucker rod inside the same. At a threaded connection in the finished tubing string, where an externally threaded top end of a section of production tubing is engaged with an internally threaded bottom end of a box coupler or collar, the tubular portion of a respective liner hangs downward from a larger-diameter collar portion of the liner that sits atop the annular top end of the section of production tubing. The liner is installed by simply dropping its tubular portion into the section of tubing and then threading the box coupler onto the section tubing around the upper end of the liner.

  • Publication number: 20120186818
Abstract: A sucker rod coupling features a coupler unit having internally threaded coupling sections at opposite ends for engaging sucker rod pins and one or two outer members extending about the coupler unit between the ends, each outer member being rotatable about the coupler unit and presenting contact surfaces facing outwardly at positions radially outward therefrom. Each outer member is positioned between a respective end of the coupler and a stop defining feature thereof, and a respective stop element is selectively deployable adjacent the respective end of the coupler on a side of the outer member opposite the stop-defining feature. The outer member prevents wear to the production tubing and the sucker rod string, is easily replaceable through manipulation of the stop element to allow sliding of the member off the unit and sliding of a new member thereon, and directly engages the sucker rods without needing additional threaded components.

  • Publication number: 20060196657
Abstract: A apparatus having an elongate body having an exterior surface, a first end and a second end. A first coupling is positioned at the first end which adapted to mate with a first sucker rod. A second coupling is positioned at the second end which is adapted to mate with a second sucker rod to form a sucker rod string. At least one helical fin spiralling around at least a portion of the exterior surface of the body, such that, upon rotation of the sucker string, the at least one helical fin creates fluid movement.
