  • Patent number: 7194679
Abstract: A system for reviewing files which permits comments to be inserted in files to be viewed with a hypertext browser. When the hypertext mark-up language employed is HTML, text files are converted to an HTML representation. An HTML file is represented by a linked list of objects. Comment insertion markers and comment display objects are inserted at predefined points in the HTML linked list representation. The linked list is stored as a binary file and has a comment file associated with it. Access to the HTML file by reviewers and authors causes the regeneration of the HTML document by a Common Gateway Interface which recreates the linked list representation of the document from the binary file and which then generates HTML code from the linked list. Comments may be entered by reviewers working in parallel on the HTML document. Comments are displayed as inserted at the next regeneration of the HTML document by the system.

  • Patent number: 6960668
Abstract: A one-step process for the preparation of a substituted thioxanthone, such as carboxymethoxythioxanthone, in high yields and as a single isomer. The substituted aryl compound is reacted with mercaptobenzoic acid or dithiobisbenzoic acid in the presence of sulphuric acid.

  • Publication number: 20050233846
Abstract: An improved variable radius chain or belt transmission is provided for bicycle, motorcycle, automobile, industrial, household and consumer product uses. It delivers power and shifts under power through a continuously variable range of ratios. Alternative means are disclosed: for properly engaging the chain or belt regardless of drive radius; for handing off the workload of the chain or belt even while the drive's effective radius is changing; for minimizing the force required to expand a drive under chain or belt; for supporting the chain or belt attachment points in radially variable manner; for circumferentially bridging the spans between radial attachment points; for coordinating the radial movement of the attachment points within one drive; for actuating up-shifting or down-shifting processes in forward or reverse; and for simultaneously varying the effective radii of input and output drives in coordinated fashion.

  • Publication number: 20040110181
Abstract: The present invention relates to newly identified open reading frames comprised within the genomic nucleotide sequence of Streptococcus pneumoniae, wherein the open reading frames encode polypeptides that are surface localized on Streptococcus pneumoniae. Thus, the invention relates to Streptococcus pneumoniae open reading frames that encode polypeptide antigens, polypeptides, preferably antigenic polypeptides, encoded by the Streptococcus pneumoniae open reading frames, vectors comprising open reading frame sequences and cells or animals transformed with these vectors. The invention relates also to methods of detecting these nucleic acids or polypeptides and kits for diagnosing Streptococcus pneumoniae infection. The invention finally relates to pharmaceutical compositions, in particular immunogenic compositions, for the prevention and/or treatment of bacterial infection, in particular infections with Streptococcus pneumoniae.

  • Patent number: 6263340
Abstract: A file review system includes a mechanism for the auto-registration of users. An author of a file in a file review system defines one or more user profiles. A new user of the system is provided with a user identification and password for a user profile. The user profile has data associated with it to restrict or permit access to the file or to functionality associated with the file review. The new user is assigned a new user definition which inherits the data of the user profile. The new user definition is then used by the new user to access the file of the file review, in the manner defined by the author.

  • Patent number: 4518506
Abstract: There is disclosed, in one aspect, a method for treating the upper layer of a body of water to effect a chemical and/or physical change within this upper layer. This method comprises placing a composition comprising an expanded silicate aggregate, such as a boron-containing silicate aggregate, which is impregnated with at least one treating agent such as a herbicide, onto the surface of a body of water, such as a lake, and allowing the composition to float upon the surface for a sufficient period of time to effect the chemical and/or physical change. In another aspect, there is disclosed a composition useful for treating the upper layer of a body of water to effect a chemical and/or physical change. This composition comprises a mixture of the expanded silicate aggregate and at least one treating agent which, when applied in the appropriate concentration and for the appropriate time period, will effect the desired chemical change within the upper layer of the body of water.

  • Patent number: 4362044
Abstract: The invention contemplates a pipe-bending technique wherein an arcuate die which determines the course of bending the central axis of the pipe relies solely upon two tangentially engaging developing lines of contact which are spaced equally, at opposite offsets from the radial plane in which the pipe axis is bent. For the case of pipe bending to a circular arc, the opposed die faces are generally conical, and there is no pipe contact with the die in the range between the spaced developing lines of tangential contact.
