  • Patent number: 9451651
Abstract: A system and methodology that can limit and manage the number of multiple radio access bearer (mRAB) initiations, which are transitions from a Circuit Switched (CS) voice session, is provided. Moreover, the system, within a Radio Access Network (RAN), can identify vulnerable radio conditions for a user equipment (UE) on an uplink (UL) and/or a downlink (DL), and then subsequently determines whether a Packet Switched (PS) data session is allowed to pass through to the UE, during a CS voice call. In addition, the system can temporarily block a network-initiated data request to the existing CS voice call, if the voice call is likely to be dropped on initiating an mRAB. As the vulnerable radio conditions improve, the system can deliver the previously blocked data request to the UE.

  • Patent number: 9432904
Abstract: An architecture is described that can determine a scanning schedule for reselection scanning in connection with a wireless communication network or service. The architecture can monitor various indicia relating to recent movement of user equipment (UE) such as a wireless device, and, based upon such recent movement indicia, construct a mobility pattern for the UE. In addition, based upon the mobility pattern, the architecture can generate a reselection scanning schedule for the UE designed to optimize tradeoffs between battery life and network awareness.

  • Publication number: 20160242042
Abstract: Measurement data collected by a set of femto access points (FAPs) can be utilized, during a network listen procedure, to detect one or more areas with weak macro network coverage and/or high interference. Moreover, an automatic cell planning (ACP) component can be employed to analyze the measurement data and update a transmission parameter(s) associated with a macro access point. After the update is implemented, the ACP component can trigger another network listen procedure at the set of FAPs and receive new measurement data. The ACP component can evaluate the new measurement data to dynamically verify that the implementation of the update resulted in an improvement of macro network coverage and/or interference within the one or more areas.

  • Publication number: 20160234695
Abstract: Attachment data collected by a set of femto access points (FAPs) is utilized to localize, predict, and/or weight potential wireless communication traffic within and between areas. Moreover, the attachment data can be indicative of user equipment (UE) density/traffic within coverage areas of respective femtocells. The attachment data can be consolidated and analyzed to identify location and motion of a UE “swarm”. Moreover an automatic cell planning (ACP) component can be employed to utilize the attachment data for determining an optimal macro site and optimal antenna setting(s) that facilitate steering/tuning the macro antenna beam to focus upon the swarm area. In addition, the ACP component can facilitate reconfiguration of the macro antenna beam as reported swarm concentrations shift between the FAPs.

  • Publication number: 20160165484
Abstract: Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, determining a first indication of a signaling load of a first wireless access node. The first wireless access node also receives, from a second wireless access node, a second indication of a signaling load of the second wireless access node. The first and second indications of signaling loads are based on coordination of first and second network traffic of first and second groups of mobile devices in wireless communication, respectively, with the first and second wireless access nodes. One of the first or second network traffic is identified in response to one of the first indication, the second indication, or both. A redirection of the one of the first network traffic or the second network traffic is also initiated in response to one of the first indication, the second indication, or both. Other embodiments are disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20160157042
Abstract: Utilization of radio network technology and display thereof are managed when multiple services and radio network technologies are available to a multi-technology mobile device. The management relies at least in part on a subscriber profile that comprises a network selection profile constructed through market policy, subscriber policy, and application policy for radio technology utilization. Network preference(s) profile is generated on per subscriber, or per subscriber type, basis and is conveyed to a subscriber station over the air. Initial subscriber profile can be delivered at a time of provisioning a multi-technology mobile device, and updated based at least upon subscriber demand, a schedule established by a network operator or service provider, or an event related to coverage area relocation or contracted services. Radio technology preferences and display of associated technologies available to a multi-technology mobile device can be dynamically controlled on a per-call and/or per-application basis.

  • Publication number: 20160095070
Abstract: Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a system that obtains uplink parameters associated with different sectors of a wireless network where the uplink parameters are associated with uplink transmissions of a first end user device. The system can determine a differential path loss for the first end user device based on the uplink parameters where the differential path loss is between the different sectors of the wireless network. The system, responsive to a determination that the differential path loss does not satisfy a differential path loss threshold, can determine a restriction for utilization of a particular frequency and power level over a particular time period, where the determination that the differential path loss does not satisfy the differential path loss threshold can be performed without utilizing channel quality data from the first end user device. Other embodiments are disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20150381421
Abstract: Operating parameters for a femto access point (FAP) are efficiently and accurately defined. During provisioning of the FAP, the system obtains operating parameters utilized by a nearby FAP expected to have a substantially similar radio environment as the provisioning FAP. Moreover, weighting is applied to the nearby FAP to determine which set of operating parameters to utilize at the provisioning FAP. Accordingly, pre-existing operating parameters, optimized by the nearby FAP are employed to augment initial network listen measurements performed at the provisioning FAP, and thus improve speed and accuracy of initial FAP parameter provisioning.

  • Publication number: 20150319680
Abstract: Motion adaptive wireless user equipment (UE) in a wireless network are provided. Kinetic information is leveraged to select a preferred radio (or radio technology) or adapt a reselection scanning interval. This can serve to improve the performance of a UE by reducing the amount of power expended in maintaining an adequate level of connectedness to the wireless network components in the face of UE movement. In a further aspect, kinetic power generators can be employed as a source of UE transit data. Kinetic fingerprints can be compared to UE transit data, e.g., that acquired from a kinetic generator of the UE, to facilitate selection of preferred radios and reselection intervals. In this aspect, radio selection schema and reselection scanning schema can effectively be selected with little to no drain on a UE power source.

  • Patent number: 9167595
Abstract: A duplex frequency is supplemented by providing one or more simplex frequencies and distributing a data load among them. In one aspect, a system can include a server containing a scheduler in communication with a communications device. The server initially communicates with the communications device using a duplex channel, determines when it is no longer optimal to use the single duplex channel, and distributes data among the duplex channel and one or more simplex channels. Before distributing the data, the server sends a schedule to the communications device via the duplex channel, so the communications device can determine which bits of data are coming through which channels at which times. A descheduler within the communications device receives the schedule and alerts the communications device to start receiving data on other simplex channels. The descheduler then puts the bits of data in order as they stream in across the duplex and simplex channels.
