  • Patent number: 4515884
Abstract: Toner images are fused to a substrate, such as paper, with a heated fusing member having a silicone elastomer fusing surface by coating the elastomer fusing surface with a toner release agent which includes an unblended polydimethyl siloxane having a kinematic viscosity of from about 7,000 centistokes to about 20,000 centistokes. In a preferred embodiment the polydimethyl siloxane oil has a kinematic viscosity of from about 10,000 to about 16,000 centistokes and the fuser member is a fuser roll having a thin layer of a crosslinked product of a mixture of .alpha..omega.-dihydroxypolydimethyl siloxane, finely divided tabular alumina and finely divided iron oxide.

  • Patent number: 4374212
Abstract: A sheet handling device for use in an electrostatographic copying machine in which a sheet is conveyed by frictional engagement with a sheet handling member, with at least the surface of the sheet handling member being made with a moldmaking silicone rubber composition which includes a diorganopolysiloxane, an organosilicate, and a curing catalyst, together with a silica filler treated with a mixture of a hydroxyl amine, a cyclic siloxane, and a silyl nitrogen compound.

  • Patent number: 4146659
Abstract: Fuser members having surfaces of gold and the platinum groups metals and alloys thereof are described for fuser assemblies in office copier machines. Preferred fuser assemblies include cylindrical rolls having at least an outer surface of gold, a platinum group metal or alloys thereof. Electroscopic thermoplastic resin toner images are fused to a substrate by using a bare gold, a platinum group metal or alloys thereof fuser member coated with polymeric release agents having reactive functional groups for example, a mercapto-functional polysiloxane release fluid.

  • Patent number: 4078948
Abstract: Polymer fluids having oxidizable side chains are used on fusing devices in photocopiers to fix particulate thermoplastic toner to a substrate while the toner is in a fused state. Typical polymers are the polysiloxanes having oxidizable alkyl side chains. The polymers can be continuously applied in minimal thicknesses on the fusing device to form a thermally stable, renewable, self-cleaning layer having excellent toner release properties.

  • Patent number: 4018953
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for applying a thin layer of a hardenable, liquid material to the surface of a cylindrical substrate. The method involves mounting a coating collar, which is a ring having an inside diameter larger than the outside diameter of the cylinder with a resilient gasket centrally situated therein, on the substrate by sliding it over one end thereof. The ring, gasket and cylinder form a leak-proof trough when the collar is mounted in this manner. The liquid is poured into the trough while the cylinder is in a vertical position and the liquid is applied to the cylinder by sliding the collar down the outside of it to thereby leave a thin coating of the liquid on the outer surface of the cylinder.
