  • Patent number: 6053697
Abstract: An air duct assembly for a gas turbine compressor rotor in a gas turbine engine is described. The rotor includes a compressor spool shaft and at least one stage disk, and the air duct assembly includes an elongate hollow cylindrical air duct configured to couple to a stage disk at a first end of the air duct. The second end of the air duct is configured to couple to the spool shaft. The second end of the air duct includes a plurality of lobes depending radially inward, a spool shaft insert configured to fit into an opening in the spool shaft, and a plurality of pins coupled to the spool shaft insert and configured to extend from the insert and to engage the lobes of the second end of the air duct.

  • Patent number: 5388962
Abstract: The present invention discloses a system for cooling turbine rotor disk posts in a gas turbine engine with a preferred embodiment illustrating an application for a high pressure turbine stage 1 rotor disk. The disk includes a plurality of circumferentially alternating posts and slots disposed about the periphery of the disk with each slot receiving a dovetail of a radially extending blade. The cooling system comprises a plurality of seal bodies with each seal body including a relatively low volume thermal isolation chamber positioned over the top of a corresponding disk post; a plurality of axially extending blade cooling plenums supplied with cooling air with one of the plenums positioned radially inward of each of the blades; a plurality of shallow, radially extending slots formed in a relatively low stressed axially facing surface of each of the blade dovetails for diverting cooling air from the blade cooling plenums to the thermal isolation chambers.

  • Patent number: 4184797
Abstract: An arrangement is provided for supplying liquid coolant to liquid-cooled turbine buckets of a gas turbine power plant. The buckets have internal coolant passages and the outer rims of turbine discs have coolant channels which communicate coolant from the discs to the passages in the buckets. The forward, intermediate and aft discs with sealing spacers interposed between adjacent discs are mounted on a shaft. The arrangement includes a forward flange, an intermediate flange and an aft flange. The flanges are adjacent to the corresponding discs. The forward and aft flanges, the discs and the spacers have a plurality of aligned axially extending apertures circumferentially disposed about the shaft. Bolts extend through the apertures to secure the discs, spacers and flanges in abutting contact. Each of the interposed spacers cooperates with a corresponding disc to form a circumferentially disposed chamber.
