This Screening of International Calls database contains records keyed by country codes, and each record has a blocked collect call field listing destination numbers that are blocked from receiving collect calls. When a domestic-to-international collect call is made, the record corresponding to the country code of the international terminating point of the collect call is retrieved from the Screening for International Calls database. This record is checked to determine if the destination number of the collect call matches any destination numbers listed in the blocked collect call field of the country code database record. If there is a match, the call is blocked.

    Abstract: A device and method of intercepting in-progress calls whose billing numbers have been marked fraudulent subsequent to the initial authorization and validation of the same in-progress calls. The device and method uses criteria to define certain calls as “suspect” and parks all suspect calls after the initial call processing. Because the suspect calls are parked and not released to the general switching elements of the telephone network, the suspect calls can be torn down if the associated billing number is marked fraudulent after call processing. The criteria can maintain a fine granularity by using various Call Park Flags in various databases. In addition, the suspect calls can remain parked for varying amounts of time based on the category and type of call.

The stored numbers include at least a portion of the terminating ANI and at least one variable length character, and are accessible to block subsequent calls directed at the respective terminating ANIs. The at least one processor receives a dialed terminating ANI representing a subsequently dialed call and checks the database to determine if the dialed terminating ANI matches a stored number. The at least one variable length character matches any corresponding character in the dialed terminating ANI. One variable length character may also match one or more subsequent characters in the dialed terminating ANI. A match between the dialed terminating ANI and a stored number initiate a block of the dialed call.

    Abstract: Upon receipt of a billing detail record from either an operator or automatic console, a host receiver of the fraud evaluation and reporting system of the instant invention would route a record to either a bad billed number module, a call intercept module or a fraud filter module. Depending on where the record is routed, a determination is made on whether the account number is bad or whether the account number is being used by a fraudulent user. Moreover, calls may be intercepted to determine whether specific predefined thresholds have been exceeded and whether or not subsequent calls are to be processed or denied.
