  • Patent number: 4738826
Abstract: A precision reagent metering and delivery device including a threaded, disposable reagent container adapted to be threadably interconnected with a threaded base. The reagent container is provided with a fluid passageway leading to the exterior thereof. Sealably mounted within the reagent container is a plunger which is operably coupled with a stator disposed in the base so that rotation of the reagent container relative to the base will cause precisely predeterminable longitudinal movement of the plunger within the reagent container whereby the reagent within the container will be controllably forced out the fluid passageway in precisely determinable amounts.

  • Patent number: 4284134
Abstract: In a heat exchanger such as a steam generator for a nuclear reactor, two or more bundles of helically coiled tubes are arranged in series with the tubes in each bundle integrally continuing through the tube bundles arranged in series therewith. Pitch values for the tubing in any pair of tube bundles, taken transverse to the path of the reactor coolant flow about the tubes, are selected as a ratio of two unequal integers to permit efficient operation of each tube bundle while maintaining the various tube bundles of the heat exchanger within a compact envelope. Preferably, the helix angle and tube pitch parallel to the path of coolant flow are constant for all tubes in a single bundle so that the tubes are of approximately the same length within each bundle.

  • Patent number: 4200111
Abstract: A medical instrument for removing specimens from the lungs includes scissor-like cutting jaws and a tube which can be advanced toward the jaws to close them and slide over them. The jaws are biased to an open position when extended beyond the open end of the tube and include lateral projections which coact with longitudinal slots in the tube to guide the jaws relative to the tube.

  • Patent number: 4061251
Abstract: A metered valve assembly for dispensing a predetermined volume of fluid from a receptacle containing fluid under pressure for each actuation of the dispensing apparatus having a valve chamber of predetermined capacity with a check valve controlling the flow of fluid under pressure from the receptacle to the valve chamber and a control valve for discharging the fluid contained in the valve chamber. The valve structures are so characterized that upon the closing off of the control valve, fluid under pressure in the receptacle will lift the normally seated check valve off its seat to fill said valve chamber with fluid under pressure. Upon the actuation of the dispensing apparatus to dispense fluid, the force maintaining the check valve on its seat is progressively increased until the control valve is opened to permit the discharge of that volume of fluid trapped in the volume chamber.

  • Patent number: 3998226
Abstract: An inhalation device for encapsulated concentrates having a capsule piercing hypodermic needle, a mouthpiece and a cavity for receiving a capsule containing a granular medicant and the like, whereby the device is actuated to pierce the capsule to form a pair of aligned openings. An aerosol bottle is so mounted on the device that fluid under pressure is conducted through the hypodermic needle and through the aligned openings in the capsule to disperse particles of the medicant thereby. The mixture of fluid under pressure and particles of medicant are then discharged through a venturi passageway in the mouthpiece and into a person's mouth.

  • Patent number: 3957046
Abstract: A disposable mouth to mouth resuscitation device consisting of a pair of tubular members cemented together in end to end relation with a pair of valve discs in contact with each other interposed therebetween; one of the valve discs being rigid and the other flexible. Upon the person performing the resuscitation breathes into the tubular member having the rigid valve disc adjacent thereto, the flexible valve disc is made to flex away from the rigid valve disc and permit the air to pass through the second tubular member and into the person's mouth being resuscitated. Each exhalation of air and any vomit emitted by the person being resuscitated cause the flexible valve disc to seal against the rigid valve disc and be discharged to the atmosphere through openings formed in the side of the second tubular member.

  • Patent number: 3939842
Abstract: A disposable rectal insert of plastic material chemically inert to body fluids encapsulating a freezable medium having a freezing point of about 0.degree. to 32.degree.F. The insert has a small bulbous end for rectal insertion which is collapsible upon melting of the medium and compensating dilation of the other enlarged reservoir end maintains constant internal volume of the insert.
