  • Patent number: 5702297
Abstract: A slot ventilator (100, 500) comprises a slotted backing member (24, 124, 424, 524), an elongate facing strip (26, 126, 426, 526, 626), and a linkage mechanism connecting the backing member and facing strip with one another, the linkage mechanism being arrange to permit generally translational forward and backward movement of the facing strip between a closed position in which the slot is closed and an open position in which the facing strip is spaced in front of the backing member. The linkage mechanism includes a hinge (58, 158, 300) allowing the facing strip to rotate about a longitudinal axis to vary the angular orientation thereof. When installed horizontally in a window frame (14, 588, 588') the facing strip may be moved forwards and backwards to increase and decrease ventilation, and may be rotated about the hinge to divide incoming ventilation favourably between downward and upward directions.

  • Patent number: 5518452
Abstract: A controllable slot ventilator comprises first and second parallel side walls which define an air passage between them. A closure member is mounted adjacent the front edges of the side walls via parallel motion links, which allow the closure member to move generally away from and towards the side walls to open and close the ventilator. At the rear of the side walls, i.e. the opposite end to the closure member, a mounting flange is fitted, whereby the ventilator is mounted to a member. When the ventilator is installed in a slot, it is preassembled and then inserted into the slot from one end.

  • Patent number: 5344366
Abstract: A canopy for use with a ventilator slot extending through a window frame has pressure differential responsive flow control means arranged to progressively close the flow passage through the canopy as the pressure differential increases, thus preventing draughts. The canopy has a body with an inlet and an outlet and a bowed wall therebetween. A normally straight baffle strip is attached to the center of the wall and there are non-aligned apertures in the wall and the baffle respectively. When the pressure differential between the inlet and outlet is low, the baffle is well-spaced from the wall but as the pressure differential increases the baffle is bowed progressively towards the wall against the inherent bias of the strip to progressively close the flow path through the apertures.

  • Patent number: 5244434
Abstract: A controllable slot ventilator has a housing and a closure member pivotably mounted on the housing to selectively close a vent in the housing. The closure member is supported on linking elements which are mounted on the closure member. The linking elements are arranged so as to rotate when the closure is moved between the open and closed position. The angle between a line, passing between the pivot points of the linking element, and the general plane of the closure member increases when the closure member moves to the open position.

  • Patent number: 5194040
Abstract: A slot ventilator (1) comprises an elongate facing strip (7) which is movable on parallel-motion links (12) between a closed position in which it seals a slot (4) in a backing member (3), and a forward, open position. The parallel-motion links (12) are pivotally secured at one end of a rearwardly-extending rib (8) at the rear of the facing strip (7), and at the other end to a pair of parallel rearwardly-extending mounting flanges (5) behind the backing member (3). When the facing strip (7) is in the closed position, the pivotal connection (13) between the link (12) and the flanges (5) is accommodated within a cutout portion (18) of the rib (8), so enabling the overall depth of the ventilator to be reduced.

  • Patent number: 4813723
Abstract: Latch operating means are disclosed comprising a linearly moveable operating member and a rotationally moveable latch operating member, interaction means comprising a thread and a thread engaging cam being provided betwen said operating member and said latch operating member, said interaction means translating linear movement of said operating member into rotational movement of said latch operating member: the latch operating means in the various forms of the invention are constructed such that said latch operating member has located rotatably thereon connector means, said connector means and said latch operating means having rotatory loss connection means therebetween; said thread being a groove and said thread engaging cam being a bearing; and being provided with locking means to restrain rotation of said latch operating member.
