Abstract: A method for data management and an electronic device comprising a memory for storing data items are provided. The device comprises a controller configured to determine a data set comprising a set of data items, determine the number of data items in the set, select the type of a display map on the basis of the number and type of data items in the data set, determine the number of area elements in the map on the basis of the data set, display on a display the display map comprising the determined number of area elements, and receiving from user interface data management commands related to the displayed map.

Abstract: A system and method are provided that allow a user to perform information management tasks and access the Internet. The system includes a terminal that is part of a family and capable of wireless communication, a gateway, an Internet Service Provider (ISP), a server for authenticating the terminal, a global unit for providing the internet address of the server to the terminal, and browser logic stored in the terminal or the server. The method includes the steps of powering on the terminal, establishing a communication link with the gateway to obtain an internet address for the terminal relative to the internet address of the gateway, obtaining an internet address for the server, and establishing a family communication session between the terminal and the server to allow access to information management services, and launching a browser to provide an interface to the internet.

This method and computer program is able to create a screen of thumbnail snapshots of web pages for presentation to a user. These thumbnail snapshots are reduced images of the actual web pages themselves that the user has visited. Associated with each thumbnail snapshot is a universal resource locator for the web page. The history of the web pages visited may be displayed in a toolbar which is scrollable.

Abstract: A technique for inputting data, such as selecting a particular function of electronic device, using a touch screen of the electronic device, includes detecting when an object, such as a finger or a stylus or a pointed object, is touching the touch screen and detecting when the object is no longer touching the touch screen. The location of the object touching the touch screen is also detected. The time duration from the time of detection of the object first touching the touch screen until the time of detection of the object no longer touching the touch screen is detected. A determination of the data being inputted, such as the particular function of the electronic device being selected, is made based on the detected location of the object on the touch screen and the measured time duration.

Abstract: A method of and apparatus for dragging and dropping items displayed on a touch screen. In one embodiment, the item on the touch screen is touched with a pressure greater than a first predetermined pressure for a first predetermined period of time. The pressure on the item is then reduced, and the item is dragged with the reduced pressure to a second location at which the touch screen is touched with a pressure greater than a second predetermined pressure for a time duration greater than a second predetermined time period. In another embodiment, the item on the touch screen is touched with a pressure greater than a predetermined pressure for a first predetermined period of time, and then the touch screen is touched at a second location with a pressure greater than the predetermined pressure for a second predetermined period of time, less than the first predetermined period of time.

Abstract: A method and device are provided for accessing the internet. A first internet web page may be accessed using a terminal. The first internet web page may be displayed on a display of the terminal. Features of the first internet web page may be displayed within a first active window of the terminal. A user may subsequently select the first active window and have a browser reaccess the first internet web page. The first internet web page may then be displayed again on the display.
