  • Publication number: 20040258100
Abstract: There is disclosed, in a communication system comprising a receiver and a plurality of sub-receivers, wherein signals received at each sub-receiver are forwarded to the receiver, a method for determining at which one of the plurality of sub-receivers a signal received at the receiver is received from, comprising: allocating a time delay to each sub-receiver; delaying a signal received at each sub-receiver by the corresponding time delay; and determining the presence of a received signal in a time window associated with each time delay, wherein a signal received in a time window associated with a particular time delay is determined to have been received by the corresponding sub-receiver.

  • Patent number: 6516206
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of implementing transceiver operation at a base station. In the method, at least two transmitter units (300, 302) in different sectors transmit signals at different frequencies to the same multifrequency amplifier (306), and the signals amplified by the multifrequency amplifier (306) are transmitted to a filter structure (500), which filters signals to be transmitted at different frequencies. In the method sector-specific antennas (418, 420) transmit and receive the signals at different frequencies and the filter structure (500) filters the at least two signals received at different frequencies. The filtered signals are transmitted via the filter unit (400) to the receiver amplifier (404), whereupon the signals received from the different sectors are transmitted to sector-specific receiver amplifiers (406, 408).

  • Patent number: 6317423
Abstract: A method for controlling a base station (100, 200), used in a cellular radio system employing a TDMA multiple access method and having terminals (41-45), sectors (51-55) and at least one base station (100, 200) which transmits one or more carriers, and which has a number of baseband parts (16, 25), and at least one transmitter/receiver unit (12, 22), and which is connected to the rest of the system by a digital transmission line (70) in which information is transmitted in timeslots. The timeslots are allocated as required to different carriers, the baseband parts (16, 25) are allocated as required to different sectors (51-55) and the timeslots are allocated to different carriers so that one carrier will have no more than 16 timeslots.

  • Patent number: 6317610
Abstract: A method of combining signals to a base station and combining signals in a radio network. The base station including an antenna, a modulating mechanism for generating and modulating carrier waves, and transmitters for generating signals that are modulated by the generated carrier waves. The signals are transmitted using an antenna. The modulating mechanism modulates two or more signals per generated carrier wave. The base station includes an amplification mechanism for amplifying the signals modulated by the carrier waves, and a mechanism configured to passively combine the signals modulated by the carrier waves to the same antenna after amplification.

  • Patent number: 5752161
Abstract: A method for securing the operation of a base station having a radio coverage area divided into at least two sectors, and a base station having antennas, with combiners and branching units, and at least one channel unit for each sector, which allow the base station to establish a radio connection with active radio transceivers currently located in the base station sectors. In the method, the base station is provided with an additional channel unit the traffic capacity of which is selectably switchable to one of the base station sectors. To secure the operation of the base station when one of the channel units fails, the operation of the channel units of the base station is monitored. When one of the channel units fails, the additional channel unit is connected to the antenna of the sector of the failed channel unit by a switch, which connects the antenna attachments of the additional channel unit to the antenna of one sector at a time.

  • Patent number: 5566750
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and apparatus for cooling the exhaust gases of a molten stage furnace. The method relates to furnace structures in which the shaft (3) is vertical and the exhaust gases are passed through an outlet in the furnace roof to the cooling equipment without recovering heat from the exhaust gases through the wall portions above the furnace. The exhaust gases are cooled in two stages first indirectly by a circulating mass cooler (1) and then further in a waste heat recovery boiler. In the apparatus according to the invention, the vertical shaft section above the furnace is connected to a circulating mass cooler which is connected to a waste heat recovery boiler arranged, e.g., next to the furnace and/or the shaft.

  • Patent number: 5473284
Abstract: An oscillator unit for a base station or the like in a digital cellular radio network. The oscillator unit includes an adjustable oven stabilized crystal oscillator (21). The oscillator unit additionally includes a non-volatile memory (27), in which is stored a control information defining the frequency of the oven stabilized crystal oscillator (21) at the start of the oscillator unit, apparatus (30, 31, 32) for deriving a reference frequency from a fixed digital transmission connection, such as a PCM connection, between the base station and the remaining cellular radio network, a frequency control loop (21, 22, 23, 24) for maintaining a long-term stability for the oven stabilized crystal oscillator (21) on the basis of a long-term average of the difference between the frequency of the oven stabilized crystal oscillator and the reference frequency.

  • Patent number: 5448769
Abstract: A method for tuning an RF bandpass filter, especially a combiner filter (10.sub.1, 10.sub.2. . . 10.sub.n) belonging to a GSM system, in which an RF signal having a certain nominal carrier frequency (f.sub.c) is inputted into the RF bandpass filter and a medium frequency of a pass band of the RF bandpass filter is tuned depending on an RF power propagating through the bandpass filter or on an RF power reflected from an input of the bandpass filter. For an easier tuning of the filter and for a tuning accuracy better than before, (a) a carrier is modulated by a signal causing a first predetermined offset (+.DELTA.f), of the carrier frequency, (b) a medium frequency, at which the power propagating through the filter is at the maximum or the power reflected from the input of the filter is at the minimum, is searched for for the bandpass filter, (c) the first medium frequency obtained at stage (b) is stored, (d) the carrier is modulated by a signal causing a second predetermined offset (-.DELTA.
