  • Patent number: 6575396
Abstract: A web roll is wound (11) by passing the web onto a core (12) via a pressure nip (N) formed between a winding drum (10) and the roll (11), whereby the core (12) is supported by chucks (14) mounted on roll support arms (13). The pressing-nip force in the nip (N) formed between the roll (11) and the winding drum (10) is controlled using a position-feedback technique in which the movements of the roll support arms (13) are synchronized. Moreover, the support arms are moved is response to a control unit which uses a physical model of the winding process which predicts roll diameter at any time. When force sensors which detect an increase in pressure the arms can be advanced to promote even winding of the roll.

  • Patent number: 6427940
Abstract: The invention concerns a method in winding of a web in a centre-drive winder, wherein the roll that is being formed is loaded and/or supported by means of a rider roll unit (40) whose position can be varied and which consists of at least two rolls (42). In the method, the force that is applied by the rider roll unit (40) to the roll face in the radial direction and/or the distribution of said force between the rolls (42) in the rider roll unit (40) is/are measured by means of a detector of detectors (31 . . . 36) directly connected with the winding head of the rider roll unit (40). The nip force of the rolls (42) in the rider roll unit (40) and/or the distribution of said nip force is/are regulated on the basis of the measurement signal given by the detectors.

  • Patent number: 6095452
Abstract: Method and arrangement for winding a web wherein a roll being formed is supported in an axial direction of the roll by first and second support members placed at sides of the roll. The shape of the end of the roll being formed is measured indirectly or directly, and the relative positions of the support members in relation to one another are regulated based on the measurement. As indirect measurement, it is possible to measure forces in the axial direction of the roll, and as direct measurement, it is possible to measure the side line of a roll end directly by contact measurement or contact-free measurement. Based on the measurements, the relative positions of the support members in relation to one another are regulated such that any defects in the shape at the ends of the roll being formed can be prevented.

  • Patent number: 6010091
Abstract: A method and device for winding a paper web in which the paper web is unwound from a paper reel, the end of the paper web is taken as a substantially full width from the reel and attached to a threading member which extends substantially over the entire length in the cross direction of the web. The threading member carries the end of the paper web through the winding machine so that the web is carried with a substantially uniform tension. The threading member is carried by draw fabrics placed in the cross direction in the area of the web.

  • Patent number: 5961065
Abstract: A method for winding a web onto a spool at least partially supported on a support roll in which the web passes through a nip formed between the support roll and a roll formed by the web winding on the spool. The roll being formed is loaded and/or supported by at least one loading/supporting unit which is/are displaced during initial winding stages in a direction substantially in a plane passing through a central axis of the support roll and a central axis of the roll being formed. Thereafter, the loading/supporting unit(s) is/are displaced in a direction substantially along a path parallel to a circumference of the roll being formed, and during final winding stages, the loading/supporting unit(s) is positioned to support the roll being formed from a bottom region thereof.

  • Patent number: 5785271
Abstract: A method of regulation in winding, wherein a number of separate rolls are formed around separate roll cores situated one after another and side by side while being supported by support members and loaded by linear loads produced by truncated rolls in a set of truncated press rolls. The distance at each particular time between at least one truncated roll in the set of truncated press rolls and a beam that loads the set of truncated press rolls is measured. Based on the measured distance, a measurement signal is passed to a regulator which provides a regulation signal to valves that control actuators of the beam so as to adjust the distance between the beam and the set of truncated press rolls to the desired value.

  • Patent number: 5782425
Abstract: A method for winding a paper web in which the paper web is unwound from a paper reel and passed through a slitting station of a slitter-winder in which it is slit longitudinally into component webs by blades, and the component webs are further wound into component rolls. A portion of the ends of the slit component webs are cut off in a cutter device to provide them with predetermined measures, i.e., a predetermined initial length, before the component webs are passed into the winding stations. The winding device in winding of a paper web includes an unwind station and a slitter-winder which includes a slitting station, a cutter device, and the winding stations for component rolls. The cutter device of the slitter-winder includes an arrangement for cutting the component webs to provide the predetermined lengths therefor.
