  • Publication number: 20030157259
Abstract: A method for coating a device with superconducting material is disclosed. The method includes coating a thin pre-layer of superconducting material on the device, heat treating the thin pre-layer, coating a second layer on the heat-treated thin pre-layer and heat treating the second and thin pre-layers. The method prevents or substantially prevents bleeding of superconducting material into uncoated regions of the device. Another disclosed method involves the mechanical polishing of the device prior to coating with the superconducting material. Such a preliminary mechanical polishing reduces scratches and surface defects which, by way of capillary action, can contribute to the bleeding of the superconducting material from a coated region into an uncoated region of the device.

  • Publication number: 20020196099
Abstract: A resonator is provided comprising a conductive element, and a closed-slot in the conductive element, where the length of the closed slot dictates the resonating properties of the resonator. The closed slot generally confines the electromagnetic field resonated by the resonator in a direction perpendicular to a plane of the resonator, providing greater flexibility in the placement of the closed-slot resonator within the filter housing. Further, where three-dimensional resonators are used, compact resonator configuration such as spiral resonator configurations may be securely mounted within the filter without incurring severe filter losses due to the mounting mechanism, allowing filters designed with closed-slot resonators to be more compact in size than filters designed with prior art three-dimensional resonator configurations.

  • Patent number: 5927206
Abstract: An imagewise polarizable imaging member can be used to print the same or different images with an electrically responsive marking media. The imaging member includes a matrix-addressable microelectronic layer in proximate relationship with an imagewise polarizable ferroelectric layer. Imaging is accomplished by forming an imagewise electrical pattern in the ferroelectric layer using signals from the matrix-addressable microelectronic layer, and applying the electrically responsive marking media to the electrically polarized ferroelectric layer, creating thereon an identifiable image pattern. The marking media can then be transferred to a suitable receiver material to form the desired printed image.

  • Patent number: 5871344
Abstract: A compact flash lamp array includes a housing defining a plurality of cavities, with each cavity having a light emitting opening and a combustible mass deposited in each cavity. A firing means such as an electrically heated filament or percussive primer is provided for individually firing the combustible mass in each cavity. Each cavity in the housing is provided with a porous portion communicating to the outside of the cavity having sufficient porosity to maintain cavity integrity during combustion of the combustible mass contained in a cavity while retaining combustion by-products.

  • Patent number: 5041417
Abstract: Articles are disclosed in which an electrically conductive layer on a substrate exhibits a superconducting transistion temperature in excess of 90.degree. K. Conductive layers are disclosed comprised of a crystalline heavy pnictide mixed alkaline earth copper oxide. Processes of preparing these articles are disclosed in which a mixed oxide precursor composition is coated and heated to its thermal decomposition temperature to create an amorphous mixed metal oxide layer. The amorphous layer is then heated to its crystallization temperature.

  • Patent number: 4997808
Abstract: A combination is disclosed comprising a superconductive ceramic oxide which degrades in conductivity upon contact of ambient air with its surface and, interposed between said ceramic oxide surface and ambient air, a passivant polymer.

  • Patent number: 4994421
Abstract: In accordance with the process of the invention, there is formed electro-optical, barium lanthanum titanium niobate having a general uniform grain size of about 2 to about 20 microns. This material is formed using a raw material that comprises commercially available oxided particles of lanthanum, titanium, and niobium and carbonate of barium. The particles are calcined and then sintered under pressure, heat, and vacuumed to form a sintered mass. The mass is cooled in a controlled manner and then sliced to form wafers. The wafers are then heated in an oxidizing atmosphere to form the transparent electro-optical materials.

  • Patent number: 4950643
Abstract: A metalorganic deposition method is disclosed for manufacturing a heavy pnictide superconducting oxide film on a substrate, in which a mixed metalorganic precursor is coated and heated to its thermal decomposition temperature to create an amorphous mixed metal oxide layer. The amorphous layer is then converted to a crystalline coating by further heating followed by cooling in the presence of oxygen.
