  • Publication number: 20230096781
Abstract: A method for treating a metabolic disorder associated with abnormal bodyweight in a subject is provided, the method including administering to the subject an effective amount of a compound that modulates phosphatidylinositol 5-phosphate 4-kinase beta (PI5P4K?) activity, wherein a PI5P4K? inhibitor is administered when the subject suffers from a metabolic disorder associated with an underweight bodyweight; and wherein a PI5P4K? agonist is administered when the subject suffers from a metabolic disorder associated with an overweight or obese bodyweight. Also provided herein are methods of increasing meat quality and/or yield in livestock or domesticated poultry by administering to an animal an effective amount of a PI5P4K? inhibitor, and genetically engineered animals having a substitution in PI5P4K? that reduces its GTP-sensing activity.

  • Publication number: 20220105099
Abstract: The present disclosure concerns methods of detecting injury to a tissue and/or organ in a subject. In some aspects, the subject is the recipient of a transplant, such as a liver transplant. In some aspects, the subject is undergoing treatment with an immunosuppressant. In some aspects, the present disclosure concerns the identification of aberrant mitochondria in the subject to identify injury to the tissue and/or organ of the subject. Detecting aberrant mitochondria allows for remedial and/or corrective action to prevent or avoid significant injury.

  • Patent number: 9493813
Abstract: The invention features methods for identifying compounds that modulate the activity of phosphatidylinositol 5-phosphate 4-kinase (PI5P4K). Inhibitors of PI5P4K can be used in, for example, the treatment or prevention of cell proliferation disorders (e.g., the prevention of tumor cell growth in p53 mutated cancers).

  • Patent number: 4281821
Abstract: In a system wherein exhaust gases containing SO.sub.2 are fed to a sulfuric acid plant from multiple furnaces, including an intermittently operated furnace (such as a copper or nickel converter furnace), a method of automatically controlling the gas pressure to within a predetermined range at a point just upstream of the exhaust gas pretreating equipment at the inlet of the sulfuric acid plant so as to compensate for the fluctuation in the exhaust gas pressure resulting from start up and stopping of the operation of the intermittently-operated furnace. By this method, the disadvantages caused by large gas fluctuations, i.e., the leakage of SO.sub.2 -containing gas and the suction of excess free air can be prevented.
