A sheet length of the sheet fed by the sheet feed mechanism is measured. If the sheet length of a firstly fed sheet, which is fed in response to an image formation instruction and measured by the measuring unit, is equal to the sheet length of the predetermined type of sheet, the control unit feeds a subsequent sheet with the sheet distance corresponding for the maximum size sheet between a trailing end of the previously fed sheet and the leading end of the subsequent sheet.

The conveying roller is for conveying a sheet. The driving member supplies a drive force to the conveying roller. The clutch mechanism includes a link that moves in mechanical conjunction with the attachment or detachment of the accommodating tray and a movable member that moves in association with the movement of the link. The clutch mechanism selectively connects and disconnects a drive force transmitting path by the movement of the movable member. The clutch mechanism disconnects the drive force transmitting path when the accommodating tray is detached, and the clutch mechanism connects the drive force transmitting path when the accommodating tray is attached.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes an apparatus body, an image forming unit, and a retransporting unit. The retransporting unit includes a transporting roller for applying a transporting force to the sheet and an input portion disposed at a position shifted upstream of the transporting roller in a retransporting direction. The input portion is configured to receive an input of a drive force supplied from the apparatus body. The retransporting unit further includes a drive shaft extending in a retransporting direction. The drive shaft is configured to transmit the drive force from the input portion toward the transporting roller by rotating about an axis thereof. A height of the image forming apparatus may be reduced by this configuration.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus to form an image on a recording sheet by transferring electrophotographic developer onto the recording sheet is provided. The image forming apparatus includes a heat roller to thermally fix the transferred developer onto the recording sheet, a rotating member to convey rotation force to the heat roller, a bearing to support the rotating member rotatably, a frame in which the bearing is assembled so that the rotating member is supported by the frame through the bearing. The bearing is made of a material having sliding resistance lower than sliding resistance of a material of the frame. The bearing is arranged on an opposite side of the heat roller with respect to the frame and receives the rotating member on the opposite side. The bearing and the frame are assembled to have clearance therebetween.

A sponge is fixed to the bottom surface of the guide plate to expose at least the deformation part, so that the sponge can reduce the occurrence of paper jams.
